Do you know if you open a DOCX file in Word 2013 originally created in Word 2007/2010 and then save it will the new strict format be applied?

Edit: According to Office 2013 "help" Word 2013 automatically determines which previous version of Word a DOC/DOCX document was created with and opens it in a compatibility mode. The document can be converted to the 2013 DOCX format (ISO/IEC 29500 Strict?) by using Save As and choosing the "Convert" option.

Word 2013 works with two types of DOCX documents:

From "File format reference for Office 2013", http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd797428.aspx#feedback
    .

Yeap, correct and default at install is the compatible one (word 2010 docx), sorry for the confusion. For strict open doc you have to choose it from the drop down menu (save as). Then the formatting will be kept.

Of course, you can set the "strict open XML document" (.docx) as default from the MS word settings (save section).

Thanks, that's one thing I wanted to be able to do. I wonder if saving docx in the strict format eliminates the incompatibilities with OpenOffice, et al?
