i think defense wall would always score like this as its HIPS .. so it would detect anything suspicious ,,,

You may be right. I wish that they included other HIPS as well (out of purely selfish interest to see how OA and PF would score).

Your observation may also speak more emphatically toward the excellent job done (thus far) by MBAM and Vipre. :thumb:

I wouldn't take anything away from DefenceWall. Protection is the bottom line and they are doing it as well as the best. These tests are a real eye opener. Cuss em or luv em it's hard to deny you weren't there that day. Hats off to eveybody in the test . Win lose or draw.:thumb:

Hmm, wonder how none of you guys notice how bad Avast scoring in this test, despite is being rated as the best free AV, wonder why they fail so much on this tests.

I noticed that as well and wonder why. Avira isn't much better and they usually score pretty high on detection. Hopefully the developers for the lower scoring products are hard at work trying to rectify the situation.

Yeah, I posted once about it, pity that it doesn't perform better.
    Comparison of the freebies:
    Passes
Avira AntiVir Premium 11 out of 25
Avast Antivirus Professional 6 out of 25
AVG Antivirus 5 out of 25
Microsoft Security Essentials 4 out of 25
Immunet Protect Plus 9 out of 25(Though most detections are from Bitdefender engine, which is paid version only)
Panda AV 9 out of 25(Detection should be similar/same to Panda Cloud AV)
PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Antivirus - Detected only one, and free version is much more limited than paid.

Most AVs stink at these tests. The exceptions are Norton and VIPRE.

Yes, this year and 2010, NAV/NIS are one of the best products without a doubt, if not the best. I'm using NAV with Comodo firewall atm and nothing can pass trough in my tests, Sonar & Defense+ awesome combo :thumb:

MSE is doing woefully (as are some other fine apps) but I feel confident that with the inclusion of MBAM the issue is handled nicely. (And with Sandboxie perhaps it becomes a moot point.)

Is it that bad? You get that just from a test that is done each day o_O against 1 sampleo_O If we count a year, that would be 365 samples? Now, I don't keep track of such test, and therefore I got no idea of how many samples it has detected so far; but, that shows no lights of what so ever.

Well, please take my "woefully" in context. I meant only vis a vis this test. I am no doom and gloomer.

As you can see by my signature I have not abandoned MSE nor do I intend to.

My point was only that I felt confident that MBAM was picking up the threat and that Sandboxie was probably my best line of defense in this regard in any case.

I remain confident in the security apps I rely on and thus far have not had a single issue. Beyond that, since my XP system runs well with them, I have no complaints to lodge.
Of course everyone's individual needs and mileage may vary.

    Slight offtopic, sorry guys.

Anyone here managed to make Safeweb lite work with IE9 x64 RC?

And a 'right click 500,000 samples' test does? What exactly do you learn scanning malware older than a day old? Would you buy an app that detects 99.99% of all threats but the .01% are all no more than a week old? What about 75% of all malware but none of the misses are from samples created in the last month. IMO a % removed from its context means absolutely nothing.

My point was that people should not be surprised antimalware applications miss samples, because they miss way too many each day.

So what if these tests show that X detects and that YZ does not? Does it mean everyone will come across those same threats? Not really. Most likely they will face themselves with new variants, and for which those antimalware apps, that detect the samples in the tests, may miss the ones they face themselves with.

I mentioned this before but ill say it again here, this is not designed to replace broad spectrum testing. They look for new + high damage only and then aggregate a daily % over time. Lets say your security software over a year is 5/150 for this test, are you honestly saying that this means nothing? What about 145/150, still nothing?

These tests are only relevant if you go to malware sites and download every file - IGNORING any warnings from your AV's site blocking or IE\FIREFOX warnings - and then run it.

These files are not downloaded in the normal fashion as far as I'm aware.
