I'm getting used to 57. I'm really liking it.

Has anyone else experienced any hangs or crashes with Firefox 57?

I was suffering with constant hanging/freezing for the first week and tried several "solutions" non of which worked properly until I can across this, which has worked for me:

Options -> Privacy & Security -> Permissions. Check the box for "Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser".

Been solid as a rock since I did this five days ago.

    Thanks Cache.

That seems to be a problem for many people.
Not sure it's my problem, but I'll see.

Thank you! Why is this nasty on by default?

because it is functional by default?
although there are issues for some users, not in general!

Might be subjective but seems quicker & smoother.

The bug must have been introduced towards the end of the Beta run before 57 became final.
Either that, or there's been a Windows Update that's caused problems with it.

    Now updated to 57.0.1.

Can't see any direct reference to this bug.

There are a few download manager add-ons posted. I wonder if any provide the option to clear completed downloads.
I'll have to have a look.

I tried the download manager add-ons posted above. These are my quick findings and opinions.

Download Shelf didn't seem to work at all for me. I couldn't see it anywhere.
WX Download Status Bar works well and has an auto hide feature to hide the Status Bar are download it complete.
I can't see the point of Elite Download Manager as I can't see any difference to the Firefox download manager.
I haven't managed to get Multithreaded Download Manager to work yet, but it looks promising. I'll have another try.

Today I detected a cool add-on called Temporary Containers. If Automatic Mode is checked in its settings, every new tab is opened in a temporary container which improves security/privacy considerably. More info about containers here and here. I have yet to test it thoroughly but it looks very promising.

containers are used by purpose, not by tab or random.

Yes, normally. But I see no compelling reasons why one should not use them by default.
