does firefox under w10 need adobe flash plugin ?
rightnow i haven't installed adobe flashplayer for firefox but i can watch youtube videos

I think the default player in youtube since some time is html5.

Firefox has also expanded the malware detection on download files to Linux and Mac, and expanded it to include PUPs.
The blog post(https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2015/08/11/expanded-malware-protection-in-firefox/) links to an article(https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/k...-the-phishing-and-malware-protection-features) for disabling the phoning home, but the article only tells you to uncheck Block reported attack sites and Block reported web forgeries.
This doesn't seem to be enough, as unchecking those preferences sets browser.safebrowsing.enabled and browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled to False, but doesn't change browser.safebrowsing.downloads.enabled and browser.safebrowsing.downloads.remote.enabled.

 

A quick spot check of some code at https://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-rel...omponents/downloads/ApplicationReputation.cpp makes me think that the sequence is such that if browser.safebrowsing.malware.enabled=false, then browser.safebrowsing.downloads.enabled won't be checked/used, and if the latter is so, then browser.safebrowsing.downloads.remote.enabled won't be checked/used. I'd want to go over things more carefully and do some testing before betting my privacy on it. Have you done so; do you disagree? Those wanting all such things to be disabled might want to hit all the prefs, perhaps even the lookup URLs as well.

Also, there was an issue involving safebrowsing, private browsing, and perhaps other cookies being stored "in a separate cookie jar"/"using a different appID":

Where cookies would not be blocked/deleted by some extensions and the cookie management interface itself. I don't think this was ever fixed, but I could be wrong. Point is, if you use safebrowsing or private browsing and are concerned about cookie passing, you should investigate further and definitely double check to verify that cookies aren't going out in HTTP/HTTPS requests and/or capable of being read via Javascript.

 

I'm seeing 40.0.2 on the FTP site in the Firefox release folder; not coming through the internal updater yet.

 

40.0.1 listed on Filehippo this morning, no change log though.

Compared to previous versions, Firefox 40.0.2 seems to run a lot smoother...I like it.

 

Well, yes if you want to use flash in Firefox under Windows 10. As of v40 flash hasn't been integrated and still needs to be installed/updated separately.

 

I just did a quick check in about:config for similarly named items, as I was under the impression the two checkmarks in the standard settings are only for the site blacklisting. I'm not familiar with application code so I would also say better safe than sorry and disable all.

Windows version doesn't matter probably. If you look at pages which link to offline installers, there is just one installer for all Windows versions, only different installers for different browsers/plugin types:
