In Firefox version 129.0 I'm unable from Search to select a search engine
from the drop down list. When clicking on any of them nothing happens.

Seems I'm not the only one with this issue.
    https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=3123752

Temporary solution for now is to move the cursor to the Mozilla search area and
tap the space bar and then the search engine icons work, but still get some errors.

mozilla decided to let firefox do nothing when the input field is empty. at least it makes no sense to open the blank search page to enter a keyword while it could be entered directly into the search mask. anyhow its possible for ages now to enter a keyword into the addressbar and after typing (NOT enter) selecting the search engine from dropdown. if user wants to open the blank search page why not use a bookmark instead?

that feature will not be reverted. users who are familar with userscripts can use a userscript to insert the previous behavior.

I assume you are talking about the standalone search bar? I tested it with FF 129.02 (clean profile) and everything seems to be working fine for me. Could it be some other setting in your profile that is causing this issue? Try with a clean profile and see if the issue goes away.

I use 129.0.2, Just use the Address bar to search from. The search options "This time, search with:" are listed at the bottom of what is shown when I click in the Address bar. I installed the Search bar, the "This time, search with:" is shown when I click on the magnifying glass. All works as expected.

I have "Google Trending Searches" with no option to remove from settings.
    I changed in about:config:

    Code:
    "browser.urlbar.suggest.trending" set to false
    P.S.

They have improved, with more backgrounds,New Tab.
Still without the ability to insert a custom background.

Great! Thanks for that. I don't know why Mozilla keep 'fixing' what isn't broken. Maybe they're trying to kill Firefox.

Good that you could change the preference in about:config.
Mozilla Support mentions a way to disable Google Trending Search using a "Don't show trending searches" button. Did you thy that? Didn't that work to disable Google Trending Searches?
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-google-trending-search-firefox-address-bar#w_disable-google-trending-search

I haven't tested that setting. I don't use Google as my primary search engine, and I disabled search suggestions. So I suppose I won't see Google Trending Searches. (And also I use a blank page for new tabs, I don't know if that makes any difference.)

Same for me, except new tabs has two rows off shortcuts, all pined so Firefox can't mess with them. That "Show trending search suggestions" is disabled (grayed out) if the Default search engine is not Google.

From the series a picture is worth more than 100 words......the situation WAS this:

    https://imgur.com/uA99cQ2

Never had Google/Yahoo as the default search engine.
I only have DDG listed as a search engine.

    P.S.

This is my New Tab (obviously without using extensions):

    @Sampei Nihira,
With DDG as your main and only search engine, and search suggestions disabled, it seems to me as very odd that you got "Google Trending Searches". I don't understand how or why. And in that situation, whether the "Don't show trending searches" option to disable Google Trending Search would work, I cannot say either.
It would be interesting to see if someone else had any idea about what was happening on your system.

Surely the explanation provided by Mozilla is outdated if it reports that it is only available in the United States when I live in Italy.

Not to mention the fact that it is imposed on me without the possibility of disabling it from the browser settings.
