I've been seeing Firefox not closing properly when I click the 'X'. Next time I try to open FF I get the message that it is already running. Anyone else?

It doesn't happen every time I close FF but I have seen it a few times in the last couple of days.

Is that on Windows, Kubuntu, or Mint?
I've not seen that issue with Firefox snap on Kubuntu.

Sorry, on Windows. I've mainly noticed it after I've been watching YouTube videos for quite a while, like over an hour or more.

112? If you can run with a beta for a few days try 113 and see if that helps.

Yes, 112 and 112.0.1. I haven't seen it on 112.0.2 so far yet but I am keeping an eye on it.

that switch was removed versions ago. you have to stick with this button or lose control. But Mozilla is going to make it movable with one of the next versions - but only movable within that bar, no where else.

    official repository is here:
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

and ofc https://ftp... is also no valid or official address, its redirected to
    https://archive.mozilla.org
and its not designed for common users.

    Hello 1PW,

I think you misunderstand. Firefox has updated to 112.0.2. I haven't seen the 'Firefox not closing' issue since the update.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I used "Method 1: Disable using CSS Style Code" described in the link below to remove the extensions button. Haven't experienced any issues and the button is gone.

what you (and others) miss that the button is the only option to move extensions buttons to the bar.

The extensions I need on the bar are still there. If I need to move any more in the future, I can always undo the removal, make the desired changes and then remove the extensions button again. The procedure is not permanent!

Nope, just the ones I use regularly; Ghostry, Adblock and KeepassXC. This is why I do not need a dedicated extensions button on my toolbar, as I don't interact with any other of my extensions to justify having a dedicated button there to enable/disable them.

this implies that you have extensions installed which either have no button, or you use extensions which have a button but you cannot use which seems pretty pointless unless there are other options available, eg context menu. sounds logic?

to mention that extensions with functionality on the button are sorted on top while others on bottom.

the next upcoming feature for that button is to control rights of extensions, in special MV3 extensions, like chrome can do. no extension button, no control.

ofc, as long you do not change a single bit, you can take off its visibility. in any other case users need to use it, restarting firefox is no real option, only the browser toolbox can help out on runtime.

Some extensions have a button, but I usually don't keep them on the toolbar, as I do not need them on a daily basis, or their functionality is available through right click menu, such the Adobe Acrobat and download manager extensions. The final one I have is the Firefox multi container extension, and I can control that from the new tab button. Thats all the extensions I have. I do not like cluttering up my toolbar needlessly.

I know about mv3 extensions. I don't have any right now, and when they do appear, I will figure something out. I also don't update my browser for every new version. I usually update every 4 months or so. I just upgraded from 107.0.1 to 12.0.1 on 4/22 and noticed this new extensions button. Hopefully Firefox will provide an option to get rid of it and merge its options with the other menu items.
