Had enabled fission autostart as soon as it was available, back in v. 92 (I believe). Since then, Firefox is no longer sandboxed. :)

Why did you turn it off?

firefox is using since "quantum" any windows feature for lowering rights for childs, fission means "site isolation" which extends this. sandboxing with probably sandboxie is a complete other method. anyhow i do not recommend running firefox in sandboxie.

Brummelchen provided the answer. For my low-key browsing, I don't need both. :) Fission is good enough with my other settings.

    The release notes cite:
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/94.0/releasenotes/

ghacks was short on that detail.

Otherwise, as it's been experimental since v70, setting
fission.autostart and gfx.webrender.all to true will enable Fission.
Browser restart is needed, if I remember correctly, as it's been quite a while since I enabled it, version 80 sumthin.

    Cheers.

They introduce new colors and remove them later, then why bother?

My guess is it's just marketing. If they're always going to be available then people won't be compelled to try them, but mention "limited time only". Sounds like an infomercial to me.

That, or maybe their planning purchase only after the "limited time".

I just noticed the word "seasonal" in the text you quoted. I had not spotted that previously. If they are seasonal that would explain it. They will likely be swapped for a different season later. I assume.

    If I can't get through a normal update - I don't care.
I'm not into that "panicky" mode.

Mine auto updated with the new background service I suppose as when I went to check for updates I was already on this latest version.

Interesting. Any time I check on multiple PCs it doesn't update until I check. I remember them rolling out that service for the purpose of keeping it updated but I have yet to see any evidence that it has done so on any of our PCs.

I hear you. Funny thing is, I did not see any evidence of it in my event viewer logs. So now it makes me wonder. Will have to check on my home machine tonight to see if it actually did just that or not.

Yes, there's that little button that says "update to v. xyz." Firefox doesn't update in the background on here. I prefer it that way.

I thought they were going to add a service to update, running or not. The only service listed under Services is the Mozilla maintenance service which is set to manual an therefore will not run without something to start it up. Chrome and Edge both have Scheduled Tasks set for updates but the only thing for Firefox is a task that checks the browser default that says it has never run.
