    Yes, it was actually a fresh installation of Windows 7 x64 on two machines and affected both. Both now cured by changing the above setting.... So far at least.

    bo, although I didn't have an issue, I just tried the above, and not only did my browser not restart, the firefox.exe process was running in the Task Manager. As soon as I reverted back to my previous settings, restarting the browser, no more running process no matter how many times I closed/opened the browser. Interesting stuff. :isay:

    JR,

    I had the same experience with FF not restarting after changing that setting on both of my systems, but since then the problem with FF not closing hasn't happened again.

    Thanks to you and Bo for pointing me in the right direction. :thumb: :)

    Cheers!

    It really is. I can set my XP with custom settings for history and don't have problems but cant do so in W7. And I can set either computer with Never remember history and don't experience the problem.

    @Krusty, you are welcome.:)

    firefox with this latest have really gone down. I tried it and man it freezes a lot for no apparent reason. It froze 3 times on me when I tested it. twice trying to access the settings and add-ons and once trying to open a page. I think FF alternatives like palemoon, etc. works great.

    There is nothing left anymore...

    From a bug/mod standpoint, this sounds just like the veritable nightmare I expected it to be. But that aside even, I don't trust it a bit... wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I'm still with v28, and it will be the last version of Firefox I ever use. And I'll use it until/if there's reason to believe I'm no longer safe in doing so.

    But then... where to go? Google is certainly not the place to start where trust is involved. Could things have really come full circle, back to IE again? Could it be the lesser of the evils these days (that's really what it's come down to... no "good" choices left).

    We've just witnessed the end of an era here in the past month or so, with XP and now FF having no (trustworthy, anyway) support left. Yet I'd sooner trust hanging onto these unsupported options than moving in any other direction as of right now, because I flat out don't trust the new school any further than I can throw the NSA.

    From post #83 I learned that the new "hamburger" menu is customizable.

    I got rid of that button immediately after upgrading, I hardly ever change anything but if I am going to change something, I prefer to click Customize in the Menu bar.

    And that Menu Bar fits nicely in this new version. :)

    Yes exactly, are these guys for real? And now that those morons from Opera have switched from the excellent Presto engine to crappy Chrome (Blink), it suffers from the same problem. You can´t even tweak it with an extension, like in FF. :thumbd:

    Besides having the issue with Firefox not starting and having to kill the process, now fixed thanks to reading this thread, I have noticed that when opening FF, it seems to take a deep breath, almost as though it were steeling itself, before loading the Adblock Plus add on. Takes maybe 1 second+ before the icon appears.

    Yes, but that is because of the new Adblock Plus version 2.6

    I've also noticed this behaviour with ABP on Firefox & SeaMonkey.
