still no x64 version
I will wait for 17.0.1
whoever told you there'll be one?
ROTFLMAO! (and me)
If you saw the version 17 candidates folder on the FTP you know this is already the second 17.0 build, so need reason to wait.
I just checked about:config for social to check the entries for the new Social API, seems it is still disabled by default as social.active and social.enabled are set to false and there is no mention of this feature in the normal settings window. I did notice that the value for social.activation.whitelist is https://facebook.com, I think users should be given that choice
Thanks for this finding and observation, it has been passed along.
FYI. Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 17.0 (web browser) Released for PA Platform users, courtesy of PortableApps.com.
it's always nice have an update and see that some components don't work anymore
for example secure login java protection is gone , it doesn't work
Good find! social.manifest.facebook is worth taking a look, too.
Mozilla bakes Facebook features into Firefox 17 • https://www.facebook.com/about/messenger-for-firefox
It is opt-in or can be disabled via [about:config]
I do not know the syntax at this time to do so.
Firefox Introduces New Social API and Previews Integration with Facebook
Being social with privacy in mind
It is disabled by default and totally "Opt-in". It is very simple. Go to the Facebook Messenger page and click green button "Turn On".
No need to muck about in "about:config". It is enabled and disabled in about:config by user turning it on or off.
however, one can check to see it switch on and off in about:config; enter 'social' in the search bar to call up all entires)
looks like facebook's tentacles have finally corrupted firefox.... seriously don't we have enough extensions for this?
you right jo3
FB Messenger in FF? Bad, bad Fox. Go to your den and shrug off the FB dress.

On Linux, it may be missing Google and other search engines. Mycroft's search engine plugins can restore them.
