Aren't some going a little overboard with complaints about early access? I don't see any news about 9.01 being released except for here so far. The group you linked doesn't even mention 9.01 and goes back a good long while. So where is this "all over the intertubes" coming from? I find it hilarious that the tone of comments seem to be anger at Mozilla for a handful of people downloading off of their FTP site and then yapping off at the mouth about it.

The easy way to avoid all the drama and any potential screw up is to wait until the thing hits the live update servers. It's usually like a day or two at most.

The intertubes stuff was not about 9.0.1, IMO. It was about mentioning that a "final" version is available before Mozilla officially released it. I cited the first post in this thread in this regard, not the 9.0.1 one.

Well, okay, but the point is still the same. It's not really Mozilla being at fault as it is either impatient or just curious people hitting the FTP sites and then making their own "news" about it. The only thing Mozilla can really do is kill the FTP sites, but have fun with the main servers choking. It's a people issue, not a Mozilla issue.

Nobody normally really cares if Mozilla didn't officially announce the release. What matters is that the final bits are available.

We need to get over this issue, it smells OCD.

Obviously by the posts, some people do care. Why I have no clue, for the reasons I pointed out.

By "nobody" if you mean yourself, you're spot on :D

Final is when Mozilla says so, not some blogger or poster. I hope that's not too difficult to handle.

Ermm ... so is 9.0.1 a genuine Windows release or not? :doubt:

If it's not available through the normal update channels, consider it to not exist ;)

I meant "nobody normally really cares", sorry for the confusion. hahaha /edited the post.

Sure, but not necessarily by an official announcement. By making the final bits available on the FTP, Mozilla is "saying so" as well.

    Or check the FTP.

Yeah, that's what they said about 8.0.1. I'm not falling for that again.

Checking the FTP is what has caused all this ruckus to begin with. That's why I said to just ignore the "news" until it hits the official update channel.

Lol, then do whatever you darn well please :D Let's just not turn this into more than it is, which is people just getting impatient and spouting off about things ahead of time.

The official update channel, quite frankly, stinks. Currently, for example, if you use it to get the latest beta, it will offer you 9.0b6 (i.e., not even close).

As for v9.0.1, it's scheduled to hit the mirrors today (according to the folks at Mozilla....see below). The only reason I posted the 9.0.1 version earlier is because I don't recall EVER seeing a new (incremental) release follow a "major release" so closely. It was a matter of only a couple of hours.

I updated without incident, however it said that my theme was not compatible with V9.01. I deleted it and while using the default theme I searched for a new one I might like. Every theme I tried to choose was not compatible with V9 and I have had to remain using the default theme. Are we going to have to wait a month or so for the themes to update to V9.01?:doubt:
