It’s been a while since Motorola released a proper Android flagship, but that’s set to change in the not-too-distant future. In a teaser today, Motorola confirmed it will hold an online-only launch event on April 22nd.

Rumors have been swirling for months regarding the “Motorola Edge,” a new flagship phone from the company that seems almost overdue to launch at this point. That device is expected to come with two tiers, one a Snapdragon 865 proper flagship Android smartphone and the other, a more affordable device with the same design and a slightly lower-end Snapdragon 765 chipset.

Previously leaked images of the Edge, below, show a device with a curved hole-punch display, slim bezels all around, and features like a big 108MP camera. The device is also expected to pack a 90Hz display, up to 12GB of RAM, a battery upwards of 5,000 mAh, and more.

Motorola will announce the Edge+ tomorrow, their first flagship phone in a couple of years that will try and compete directly with the big players, like Samsung. The phone will apparently spare no expense with top tier specs and a $1,000 price tag, at least according to a blog post that went up a day early that has since been pulled.

The new Motorola Edge+ will sport a 6.7″ OLED display with a FHD (1080p) resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It has a substantial edge to it, hence the name, so hopefully you like curved displays, something I feel like people have started to sour on in recent years.
You’ll also find 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage inside, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 5000mAh battery with sort-of-fast wired (18W) and wireless (15W) charging, Snapdragon 865 processor, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.1, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a triple rear camera.

On a software front, the Edge+ runs Android 10 and is only guaranteed to see one major update to Android 11. Good grief.

Since this is on Verizon and we’re in 2020, the Edge+ will support 5G and Big Red’s 5G mmW. Both companies will tell us tomorrow that it will be the fastest 5G phone on the market with speeds up to 4Gbps. That’s cool and all, but you would need to find a 5G mmW city and block in order for that to happen. The chances there are, well, slim.

The last time Motorola introduced a flagship smartphone was in July 2017 with the Moto Z2 Force. But today, Moto is back. The Lenovo-owned firm is reentering the flagship smartphone space with the Edge and the Edge+. Motorola had committed to using the Snapdragon 765 and 865 in its handsets this year, and that's what these two phones have, respectively.

The Edge+ is the true flagship of the bunch, and unfortunately, this one is exclusive to Verizon. But carrier exclusivity aside, the company really tried to push the boundaries to make a unique device that stands out from the pack. Motorola says that the Edge+ has the largest battery of any smartphone, the fastest 5G, and it has the highest resolution camera.
The Motorola Edge+ was built from the ground up for 5G. It supports both mmWave and sub6 on Verizon's network for up to 4Gbps data speeds, using Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 modem.

Both devices have a 6.7-inch 21:9 90Hz OLED display.
While the sides are curved, Motorola says that it put a lot of work into grip and touch detection, so the form factor won't result in problems with usage.

One other thing that Motorola focused on is audio quality. Yes, both of these devices actually have a 3.5mm audio jack, something that's hard to find on a premium smartphone these days, unless you buy from LG. But the company is also promising the loudest speakers, using Waves MaxxAudio for the best quality.

On the (hopefully) cheaper side of things, Motorola also announced the "Motorola Edge" (non-plus model), which has a similar design to the Edge+ but with a step down in specs across the board. It has a Snapdragon 765, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4500mAh battery. Motorola says the cheaper Edge will be out in the United States "later this year." There's no official US price yet, but in Italy it will cost 699 euros, or $756.

Motorola promises one additional Android update for the $1,000 Edge+

In an email to Engadget, a spokesperson for Motorola said the company plans to furnish the device with at least two major Android platform upgrades. Previously, Motorola had only committed to updating the phone to Android 11, which goes into public beta this June. With the new policy, Edge+ owners will be able to look forward to using Android 12 on their new Moto flagship.

The new policy doesn't propel the Edge+ into a category of its own, but it does make it at least competitive against some other Android devices.
Still, this is at least a step in the right direction for Motorola, particularly for a phone that will cost $1,000 when it comes out.

Motorola announced its Edge series of smartphones, the Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+ in April. The Lenovo-owned brand then went on to launch the Edge+ flagship in India last month, which brings features like a curved 90Hz display, stock Android 10, beefy battery, fast charging and more.

Now, it looks like Motorola is working on a new model in the Edge lineup. Pricebaba has learned through tipster Ishan Agarwal that the company will be launching the Motorola Edge Lite soon. The device will feature a Qualcomm chipset and will be a mid-range offering.
As per Agarwal, the Edge Lite could feature either the Snapdragon 730G or 765G chipset. He also confirmed that the device’s model number is XT2075.

Yesterday, a Motorola device with the same model number (XT2075-3) was spotted on the FCC by tipster Mukul Sharma (aka Stufflistings)
Sharma also spotted a listing of the XT2075-3 on a European retail website, which suggests that the device will feature 5G, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 5G support is further indication that the Edge Lite will be powered by the 5G-enabled Snapdragon 765G chipset.

Back in April, Motorola announced that it was reentering the flagship smartphone space with the Edge+. But alongside of the Edge+ was the Edge, a device that was still meant to be premium, but had its specs watered down a bit. The Edge+ was and is still married to Verizon, so if you want the device on another network, the Edge is your only choice.

Motorola today announced that the Edge is coming this summer for $699.99, a much lower price point than the Edge+ for $999.99. Moreover, it's going to have 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage, rather than the 4GB and 128GB that was originally promised.
Other than that, the Motorola Edge packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, along with support for sub6 5G.

Motorola didn't say specifically what day the handset will be available, but it should be over the next couple of months.

As the name suggests, the Edge is a stripped-down version of its Edge+ sibling. Its specs aren't quite as impressive from a technical perspective, but Motorola says it still delivers a flagship experience for $300 less with much broader availability. That's a bold claim and one that sounds too good to be true, but as fate would have it, the Motorola Edge pulls it off beautifully — for the most part.

Motorola might soon release a sequel to its flagship Edge phones — albeit without their signature feature. OnLeaks and Pricebaba have shared what they say are CAD-based renders of the standard Edge 20, and Motorola appears to have dropped the highly curved "endless" display in favor of a 6.7-inch flat screen. It would be just another phone on the outside, even if the 120Hz,1080p panel could make it feel extra-responsive.

You'd also get a triple rear camera system that reportedly includes a 108MP primary sensor, a 16MB secondary cam and an 8MP tertiary sensor (likely for telephoto and wide-angle shots). This regular Edge 20 model would be an upper mid-tier device on the inside between a Snapdragon 778G chip, up to 8GB of RAM, a peak 256GB of storage and a 4,000mAh battery.

The Duo 2’s specs are also rumoured to include a significant refresh with Microsoft opting for a Snapdragon 888 chip with support for 5G and possibly more RAM as well
