Which is your most favorite security app, the one that you cannot do without and why?

At this time, Sandboxie, because nothing gets past it.

Firewalls, antivirus, antispyware, etc, etc, can all go. Since I've been running Sandboxie, my antivirus and spyware has had an easy job. Even Ccleaner hasn't had anything to do with Sandboxie on the job.

My prefered software is HIPS (ProSecurity and now Real-Time Defender). Because I feel in control. And for me "control" is "security".

Absolutely!! Couldn't agree more. A properly configured SBIE should be the basis for every set up.

I suggest getting the paid version. It will allow you mutiple sandboxes, which I believe is needed. It also will reward tzuk, the developer. It is a great product that will forever replace subscription (scanner) products

    Sandboxie.

Zero day = Zero grief with Sandboxie.

Coupla years ago I used to feel naked if I didn't see an AV icon in the taskbar.

Well I've gotten over that phobia and now I feel naked if the Sanboxie icon ain't showing.:D

If Sandboxie wasn't around then it would be Defensewall followed by Geswall.

Returnil, VM's and Ghost images are used here as well.;)

With Returnil, which i really like too, you gotta restart to have the "un"changes taken effect. But with sandboxie, its instant.

EQSecure 4.0 is perhaps the single best Classical HIPS ever conceived IMHO, complete with File, Registry, and Application Protections as well as Low-Level Disk Access Protections to go along with an EXTREMELY FORMIDABLE Block List that rivals Windows own SRP in my experience. This HIPS is truly Gold Metal Material, and wouldn't have achieved such confidence if not for the absolute generosity of Alcyon's RuleSets he programmed and fashioned to greatly increase it;s security a hundredfold, which is made a huge difference.

It's stupidly "LITE" as they come but tremendously "STRONG" in defense and best of all stable as granite as well as compatible with about every other conceivable security program on the market. It enjoys a remarkable modernlistic look and it's alpha transparency fade down data box give it a touch no other HIPS is ever exhibited and still don't.

My Most Favorite and now "ALL" my units are fully equipped with it. Completely configurable to the user's own needs & preferences and is user-friendly, not complicated like some might have you to believe.

This HIPS is 100% totally separated my need for any AV, and i yet to even get a forced entry like when i did use them before. So for me, HIPS is the OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS of today's Windows systems and renders most other security programs in a purely supporting role like Returnil, SandboxIE, etc. for good measure. A hurdle no malware dare to try to climb, and they don't or can't, even when testing it with my own malware samples.

If it encounters some newer malware invention that tries to compromise it, EQS slams down shut explorer completely. Gotta luv that extra security too.

    DefenseWall HIPS here. :D

Its protection is excellent while having minimal impact on system performance. The developer, Ilya, provides great support and is involved deeply with the development (and the community).

I guess I'm another one who likes Sandboxie!

Once I realized what a sandbox type program does, I was in favor of all good sandbox type programs. It's so simple... They isolate "risky programs" from your computer :thumb:.

These last two posts are sort of useless, and don't even answer the key question asked by the OP. WHY?

Gotta jump on board the Sandboxie wagon because (a) it works, and (b) it can be easily used by the novice (e.g. browse the web via default settings) or configured with varying levels of complexity by the experienced.

Edit: And (c) It's also comparatively light on system resources.

I like SBIE more that DefenseWall because with the former everything can be set up to be erased once the sandbox no longer has any active applications.

I saw a few people mention imaging programs. I would like to change my vote to that too, with SBIE being a close second. A clean image of your active partition on optical media would be more valuable than active "security" application can be. Image for Windows has rescued me more than once.

Geswall Pro because of a preventing damage approach.Mandatory security policy provides system enforced rules not depending on an end user and my proper action.
