    Hi,

I just paid for the package deal a couple of days ago and got my key files in the mail today. I'm feeling lazy tonight and was looking for some spoonfeeding (free stupid questions with every purchase perhaps? :p).

    1. I see there are no TDS-3 processes used/listed unless TDS-3 open. Do I have that right?

    2. I can't make out an installed service. Does TDS-3 install a service (XP)?

    3. When I use the "Scan w/ TDS-3" context menu option on a single file, TDS-3 launches and lists the scan has started. But, there's never anything after that (no news is good news)? I guess I'm missing something - shouldn't there be some type of promt or something that says "you're good", or "done"?

    4. If TDS-3.exe is a target of some Trojans, why not have the executable name changed to something radom during the installation (letting the user know what it is)? ... just one of those things I wonder about.

Hi Garrate and welcome in the TDs family!
I'm not able to answer all your questions, but a few reactions:
You have to run TDS to have it working, including the resident part exec protection. If TDS is not started e.p. is there but can't do a thing and malicious code could run if windows allows that.
If i understand well in TDS4 that will be a resident process just like WormGuard at the moment available as one of the first with windows reboot.

If i look in Port Explorer i don't see TDS running there as it has no outside connections or it would be moments of you doing something like whois, network functions, emailing. In PE i do see the initiated sockets listening for incoming connections, which have been blocked by my firewall till now so i didn't see traffic there.
If you're very brave you might like to have TDS act as a server in your firewall and see what happens:
i did at times and saw indeed connection requests which were dropped as i had TDS listening on those requested ports. I was not brave enough at that moment to allow them in the firewall, as those were 27374 portscans.
If you like to see and test and play around more make sure you also install the ss3 script files and the Screx script included.
In the Private forum are more very interesting new scripts btw which you will like!

To run TDS as a service -- i must leave that question to others; if not possible it is on the TDS4 wishlist but it might be already.

Rightclick scanning: indeed, if nothing is found we don't get an OK or "finished" message, also this is on the TDS4 wishlist. No comment means "clean, if not clean you get alerts.

Ad randum change -- i leave that to the developers too.
You can change the name manually but i run TDS since 1999 without need for name change (knock on wood)
    Firewall, updating files, scanning ........
Make sure you update the radius on a daily basis if you want to do that manually with a press of the menu-item for that or set automated in configuration which will bring it to you on monday and friday.

Free stupid questions huh? Don't excist. There are FAQ in the helpfile and on the site and two whole forums with Q&A but i couln't find stupid questions; long ago we decided only questions not asked could be dumb, especially if they are burning questions!
So you suggest when somebody buys for the action packet one gets the rights for an amount of support questions for free, and if one needs more there would be a fee? Interesting idea, but at the moment we have two whole official support forums, TDS users frequent many forums on internet and are always helpful where possible for other users, we have the Help manual of over 300 pages if you would print it out, the website with lots of interesting reads, more tools of which various free, merchandise, books, support emails, so what more do we want?

Welcome Garrate, The stupid quetions are usually the unasked ones :D
In XP with more than one user you will have to install TDS for each user as TDS3 does not run as a service, we are informed that in TDS4 this will be corrected.

The private forum contains a mine of information & is well worth joinig.

    Have fun. Pilli

    Thanks. :)
I'll request the private forum access and keep reading up.

Kinda sad I'm always clean.... It would be neat to see TDS-3 actually 'woop up' on a trojan.

I use a P2P app on a spare box in the closet that runs 24/7. In the last two years I've had 1 malware hit me but never a virus or trojan. I'm starting to wonder if they're really out there.... The only thing I never touch is porn/porno material. I'm starting to wonder what you actually have to be doing to get a trojan/virus.

    Thanks again.
