Microsoft just sent out invites for its next big event. Set for October 2 in New York, the unveiling comes exactly a year after the company’s last major Surface hardware launch. The timing is certainly right for one last major product push ahead of the holidays, as well.
There are plenty of entries in Microsoft’s line that are due for a refresh, including Surface laptop and miniature Surface Go tablet.

The company also likes to launch at least one new product line at these things. As the Verge notes, the company’s long-rumored dual-screen tablet certainly seems overripe at this point, which at least two years of product research under its belt.

After issuing a "Save the Date" for its fall hardware event a couple of weeks ago, Microsoft is sharing a bit more information about the upcoming launch. On Sept. 12, Microsoft sent out the official invitations for its Oct. 2 event in Manhattan, which will kick off at 10 am ET.

(This year's fall event event will be live streamed.)
The Microsoft fall event, like last year's (which also was on Oct. 2), is going to be about both devices and "experiences." That means Microsoft officials likely will talk about services and scenarios built around its coming devices -- which makes sense given that, these days, Microsoft develops Surface hardware alongside Microsoft 365 software and services.

I've heard, as I've noted previously, that we might see a several new Surfaces, possibly including a new Intel-based Surface Pro two-in-one with a more powerful processor and USB-C; an AMD-based Surface Laptop (and possibly a new Intel-based Surface Laptop, as well); and a new ARM-based (Qualcomm 8cx) Surface 2-in-1 device.

To date, you've had to buy a Surface Book 2 if you've wanted a Microsoft-made laptop larger than 13.5-inches. Soon, though, you might not have to spend quite so much to get a large surface. The historically accurate WinFuture claims that Microsoft will unveil a 15-inch flavor of the next Surface Laptop (presumably the Surface Laptop 3) at its October 2nd event.

There may be more shakeups at the media gathering. The Verge expects an AMD-powered Surface Laptop 3 (the first AMD-based Surface of any kind) at the event, although it's not certain if the new chip option would be available in the 15-inch system, the 13.5-inch variant or both.

Microsoft’s annual Surface event is upon us, and it will kick off on Wednesday, October 2nd at 10AM ET. There are usually plenty of announcements, but we expect this to be an especially big one. The Surface Pro 7 is almost guaranteed to be unveiled, which hopefully has USB-C charging, among the other usual yearly improvements to processing speed and other internal specs.

Rumors suggest that Microsoft will also announce a new Surface Laptop built with AMD processors, and possibly project “Centaurus,” its dual-screened Surface computer. What Microsoft has to show off matters more than ever, since Apple recently brought Smart Keyboard support to its most affordable iPad, the seventh-generation version of its standard model. Fixit completed its teardown of Microsoft's new Ryzen-powered 15" Surface Laptop 3, and—to absolutely everyone's surprise, very much including iFixit's—the teardown didn't permanently break anything.

When the folks at iFixit tore down the first Microsoft Surface Laptop, they didn't get much further than removing the rubber feet before the device was irreparably damaged. [...] a "perfect" 0/10 repairability score [...]
This year's 15" Surface Laptop 3 is an entirely different story. Well, not entirely different—but it's definitely a big change of heart. There are still some nasty bits to the Surface Laptop 3's construction—in particular, the battery is glued down and a bear to remove safely—but the iFixit crew managed to get the entire thing disassembled into its component parts with a minimum of blood and cursing. Better yet, iFixit left it in proper condition to be reassembled again.

All in all, the 15" Surface Laptop 3 earned a 5/10 score from iFixit. This might seem to be faint praise on an absolute scale—but it's a serious turnaround from the original Surface, which PC repair shops have long been advising people is "a fine laptop, while it works, but it's literally garbage if anything breaks."

In October 2019, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop 3 and it comes in both 13.5- and 15-inch sizes. The 13.5-inch Laptop 3 comes with Intel’s 10th-generation Ice Lake CPU and the 15-inch Laptop 3 runs a customized AMD Ryzen processor developed by Microsoft and AMD.
The 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 is only offered with AMD Ryzen processors, but if you’re a business, there also is a 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 that ships with Intel’s Core Ice Lake, which is the same processor used in the 13.5-inch variant.

Microsoft sells the Intel-based 15-inch model through Surface business partners. Surface Laptop 3 15-inch model comes with both Intel Core i5-1035G7 and Core i7-1065G7, but the company currently offers only 8GB of RAM with the Core i5 model.
A US-based retail source told us that Microsoft plans to launch a 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 with a Core i5-1035G7, 16GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, and integrated graphics for businesses.

The new variant will be released later this year in the U.S and business customers can buy it through Surface business channels.

At this point, it's pretty much tradition for Microsoft to hold a Surface event in October, and even with everything being delayed because of a pandemic, that's not changing this year. According to reputable leakster WalkingCat, this year's event will be September 30 or October 1, depending on what time zone you're in.

First of all, we're expecting a successor to the Surface Pro X, probably called the Surface Pro X 2 with Microsoft's tendency to give things numbers. It will have a refreshed Microsoft SQ2 processor, and it will come in a platinum color variant. The company will also be selling different colored Surface Keyboards, like it does for the Pro series.

The other thing we're expecting is a 12.5-inch Surface Laptop that's going to cost between $500 and $600. This entry-level machine is expected to come with 4GB RAM, 64GB of storage, and an Intel Core i5.

Windows Central: Surface Pro X with Microsoft SQ2 chip and Platinum color option is on the way

A refresh for the Surface Pro X is around the corner
Microsoft's ARM-powered Surface Pro X is getting a refresh this fall with an updated Microsoft SQ2 processor, the introduction of a "platinum" color option, and new Type Cover colors that bring it in line with the standard Surface Pro color offerings already on the market. According to my sources, the new Surface Pro X won't feature any significant design changes, with contacts describing the refresh as a relatively minor one.

I'm told that the new Surface Pro X will arrive in the October timeframe alongside a new sub-$600 12.5-inch Surface Laptop codenamed Sparti, designed for students in the education market.

Microsoft introduced the all-new Surface Laptop Go today, as well as new configurations for the ARM-based Surface Pro X, but that's not all the company is announcing. There are a few new accessories being announced today, which you can use to renew your setup, though the company didn't share images for them, and the product pages don't seem to be live either.

First off, there's the new Microsoft Designer Compact Keyboard, a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard with two-year battery life. It can connect to and switch between up to three devices on the fly, and it will come in two unspecified colors for $69.99. If you only need a number pad, the Microsoft Number Pad is a wireless (Bluetooth) unit that costs $24.99.

Microsoft updates its Arm-based Surface Pro X tablet with a faster CPU

Microsoft today announced the second generation of its Arm-based Surface Pro X tablet. The first generation of the Pro X launched last October and since then, Microsoft worked with Qualcomm to design the second generation of the SQ2 processor that powers it. The SQ2 doesn’t fully replace the first-generation SQ1 chip, though. Instead, Microsoft is only using it for the top-end SKUs of the Pro X.

Except for the new processor, we’re still pretty much talking about the same Pro X here that launched last year, with built-in LTE connectivity, two USB-C ports and a 13-inch touchscreen.
There are some other key updates here, though. Thanks to some software improvements, the Surface Pro X now promises up to 15 hours of battery life.

Microsoft has announced that its annual fall Surface hardware event will be taking place on September 22, now only one week away. This year, rumors suggest we're getting five new Surface devices, four of which are among the first PCs with Windows 11 out of the box.

A report from The Verge also claims that at least one Surface Pro 8 model will ship with Thunderbolt support, which would be a first for Microsoft. The device is also said to ship with Intel 11th-generation chips, just like the Surface Pro 7+ released earlier this year.

Of course, Microsoft is sometimes able to keep a few things a surprise, so maybe we'll see some addition things that we haven't heard about yet. Either way, the event is slated to commence at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT, with coverage to follow on Windows Central.

We’re just a few days away from Microsoft’s big Surface launch, where we’re expecting to see the Surface Pro 8, Surface Pro X, Surface Go 3, Surface Book 4, and Surface Duo 2. Today, it seems that the Surface Pro 8 has leaked in all its glory. The leak comes from a screenshot of a store listing alleging to sell the Surface Pro 8; obviously, it’s not confirmed.

The leak comes from @Shadow_Leak on Twitter, and while the screenshot isn’t in English, the tweet doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

First of all, it has the goodies that you’d expect, including 11th-gen Intel processors and removable storage.
Next up is the 13-inch 120Hz display. If you look at the image above, it’s pretty similar to a Surface Pro X with narrow side bezels and bigger top and bottom bezels.

Also just like the Surface Pro X, the Surface Pro 8 is going to have a keyboard with a pen garage, assuming that the image is accurate.

And of course, the refresh rate is 120Hz, as dynamic refresh rate is going to be a feature of Windows 11, Historically, high refresh rates have been tied to gaming, so this should make for a better experience for everyone. This is something that we were already expecting.

That’s not all though. The Surface Pro 8 is going to come with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, assuming that the leak is correct.
This is the first fully redesigned Intel-powered Surface Pro since the Surface Pro 3 set the standard for the product back in 2014.

Naturally, being a leak from an unknown source, it’s fair to be skeptical about this. We’ll find out what the Surface Pro 8 looks like for sure on Wednesday.

While the Surface Pro 8 will go most likely go for a new more modern design, with smaller bezels and an increased screen estate, the refreshed Surface Go will stick with the current appearance, so the same painfully large bezels will live on for at least one more generation.

And according to information published by WinFuture, the Surface Go 3 will come with important upgrades under the hood, though it’s pretty clear Microsoft still wants to position this device as an entry-level model specifically to be offered at a lower price point.

Surface Go 3 specifications
First and foremost, the Surface Go 3 will be offered with a choice of two processors depending on the version you choose. The first of them will be the Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y, while the more powerful model will be powered by an Intel Core i3-10100Y.
The maximum amount of RAM (on the i3 version) will be 8 GB, while for storage, you can go as high as 128GB SSD. However, the base model comes with 64GB eMMC storage.
