Re: Uninstall process for kb/2823324 under various senerios

Well I just uninstalled it from my W7 64 bit notebook. Then I checked to see if in fact MS had stop offering it to 64 bit users like me and they have.
IMHO that means best to remove it and not assume anything like no harm done etc.

Here are the links direct to MS so we don't have to go via 3rd party sites to learn how to do this.

    The patch that is withdrawn.

Another patch to watch out for due to possible Incompatible Update with certain Portable computers with hybrid configurations.

Unless you use Kaspersky or live in Brazil and have the special software banks force onto you installed, there's no need to uninstall it.

Microsoft is recommending to remove it just incase there is even more software out there that would conflict, and you decide to install it tomorrow, ruining your PC.

Some may think that but my view is different.

If the vendor who wrote the code decides to withdraw the patch I don't think I'm smart enough to override them.

What do you think happens to all the millions and millions of users who don't visit security forums and who otherwise never hear anything about removing the update?

    A very valid point.
Also how would users know which specific update was causing the issue.

Don't know. If they are lucky the answer is nothing.

It would depend on their knowledge or lack of. If they got a pro to help them then they could be good to go.

MS has done a lot of people a disservice for sure.

I would hope that MS would (eventually) issue another update to correct the problem...

Why don´t just to issue another patch to uninstall the first?

I think they will issue another update replacing the bad one. But until then, the immediate fix/prevention is to manually uninstall the bad update. Think of it as a workaround, lol.

This is what I expect. There will likely be another revision to resolve these issues. I do not believe that Windows Update has ever removed anything, so I don't expect that to happen now.

Hi, I delete only the file located in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution: to delete files in winsxs it's not a good idea; but you can do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2795190/en-us.

They call the people they know who do visit a place like Wilders. I fixed what I presume to be this issue early this week. It started last week. This was not in brazil and kaspersky was not installed (avira was though). Can't say it was this exact issue, but the the symptoms were the same.

It was a default win7 pro install on a store bought machine, dell or hp I think.

If Windows 8 is a commercial flop, its entirely possible Microsoft may come out with more Windows 7 Service Packs as well extend Windows 7 end of life support a couple of more years.

I get annoyed at the final Super Tuesday patch day of the month.

The bug in KB823324 has now been patched by KB2840149.

Microsoft should do more testing of patches to avoid problems for Windows users though I haven't encountered any here so far.
