Twitter user Hayden (via Windows Central) spotted a thread on the Microsoft Teams UserVoice page where Teams engineer Alex confirmed that Micosoft wants Teams to be everywhere and that it understands that some of its customers use Linux. He also said, "Say tuned for more information soon."

The thread is originally from 2016, but Alex's response is from July of this year. There's another response from October of last year from Suphatra - who no longer works at Microsoft - also seemingly confirming that the company is working on a Linux version.

Microsoft Teams PWA is now available on Linux

Today, Linux is getting some love as well.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of the progressive web app (PWA) for Teams, in terms of official support. The company says that this will allow Linux users to leverage desktop-like features in Teams in a secure manner.

More importantly, this move essentially bridges gaps between the desktop versions of Teams on Windows and Linux. The latter has been available since 2019 but Microsoft claims that it could ship new features faster via the PWA.

Microsoft has recommended Linux customers to switch to the PWA version of Teams, touting the latest features with desktop-like functionalities. The Teams PWA is supported on both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome running on Linux.

The PWA offers access to more capabilities, including custom backgrounds, gallery view, reactions, the raise-a-hand feature in meetings, as well as large gallery and Together mode views. The PWA also provides desktop-like app features, such as system notifications for chat and channel, a dock icon with respective controls, application auto-start, and easy access to system app permissions.
