Hm, can MSE also be used in commercial environments? Because avast!, AG and AVIRA (free versions) cannot be used. MSE would be a great option if that is allowed (which i think it is).

There seems to be a large variation in the reported ram usage.
Over at download.com it is ridiculously low - http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-10271088-12.html?tag=contentBody;photoPromoMain

I cannot get it (UK) so have no idea?
Anybody done a full process count etc?

They are looking at probably only 1 process. It's the 2nd process, 'MsMpEng.exe' which is taking up the memory. The two are taking over 100MB here on Windows 7 but it is running very light. Performance/CPU time is the key and not memory usage unless you have a very old computer and remember this is still only a beta.

    We Brits are eligible for the official download;

Or just go the Softpedia site to download it.

    Thanks people
If the download at softpedia is the 'old' beta then it may not - update much longer. I might not be comparing like with like.

My PC has the 'legs' so I am not concerned about ram usage, but consistancy between users gives confidence.

I don't think it works with win 2003 server OS's. I wish it did.

The cap of 75,000 downloads from the official site appears to have been reached now :(

I like MSE but it seems a little heavy at times. I haven't determined if it's just the design or if there is a conflict but i'm inclined to think the former.

Matt from http://remove-malware.com has done a video review and it seems to be doing great in catching fake urls.

    Thanks,
    Balaji.

I am not worried about the memory usage but I have seen the high CPU time of MsMpEng.exe on a number of machines/OS's now.

Thank you for the clarification. Another strange phenomenon I'm seeing is, I have automatic updates on and to check everyday but the virus db does not seem to update. I have to manually update it. This is on a Win XP (sp3) computer. Is anyone else having this issue? My definitions say:
    Antivirus definitions: 1.61.226.0
    Antispyware definitions: 1.61.226.0

    thanks
    Ice

Not a lightweight. Runs 65k mem usage on my I7 core rig without any noticeable slowdown. Scans fast on Quick Scan and very slow on Full Scan. I've tested it against a download with known malware and it caught the baddie before it could be saved to disk (something only a few I've tried will do.)

@IceCube1010 I am running XP32 Home SP3 and it updates fine on my machine. As of 10 am Pacific DS time the signature number is 1.61.260.

Also, thanks ronjor for that very informative article. Wilder's really has a top notch crew :thumb:

Thanks for the heads up. :) Keeping it with in the background, sometimes listening to the audio, I understand it as MSE caught everything he threw at it and that the Dynamic definitions did their job just great, is that correct? Just looks more and more promising, and I really, REALLY like how it operates. ;)
