I really hope they will, since it's troublesome for myself to see that it updated at latest yesterday, EARLY, and that there were indeed updates to be applied - I always have my Automatic Updates fully on, no exceptions. Well, the setting - maybe exclude some updates, but not many. :D It seemed like it checked only when I told it to manually when installing it again - not good. This makes me weigh more for Norton 2010 (Beta) once it comes out as it seems to have indeed included its cloud technology, or atleast beginning to.

I'm willing to bet, well, a small amount anyway, that MS's heuristics alone manage to beat it >.> but I won't jump to conclusions. Seems like 2009/10 are big years for the security industry with evolution.

It's probably unpacking/decompressing files which would explain the differences in number of files.

Running fine here on Windows 7, updating was automatic as well, but today it never updated yet. Living in The Netherlands. I'm very impressed and believe it will be a great program, once released officially.

Pushing the 'update' button should do the same, no need to manually download and install.

Enabling a daily scheduled scan and a checkmark placed at 'check for the latest virus & spyware definitions' will do the trick also at least once a day.

Using the batch file mentioned before in this thread MSE checks for updates every 30 minutes (my interval setting on this box).

Can't get the task scheduler to work with Windows 7 and use a little freeware scheduler (System Scheduler 3.82) now with:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate" and set to check every hour.

    Runs just great.

Hey thanks! This works even better than the default win scheduler.

    ??

The no updating only affects XP as far as I'm aware.

On my Vista HP 32bit it updates once/day on first boot only.
Is there any difference between people who had to download it from Softpedia and those who could register?

I'm on Windows 7 and updating was fully automatic until yesterday!

It's still auto updating, I think what you are noticing (as am I) is the periodic update errors (which are hidden unless you manually update) from what seems to be either overloaded update servers or the update servers being upgraded/offline.

Oh, ok. Hope it'll be fixed soon, as it is a major issue in any security setup.

I've had the old Windows 7 machine I mentioned above running idle for days on end now (no reboots..just sitting there running)....haven't touched it, just went over to it and checked the MSE update status...it had updated by itself today just fine.

Don't forget it's still just beta. ;) As is Win7 too.

Maybe the update process doesn't work well with XP, because MS wants everyone using XP, to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7? :ninja: But I'm not one of those guys that believe MS would do such a thing. Well maybe just a little. :shifty: ;) :D

I think winVista/7 has more services/etc they can use over XP such as Windows Filtering Platform etc.. which is why it's a separate installer.

Is anybody using MSE and Defensewall together?
How did you get them to co-exist peacefully?
    Same with Shadow Defender?
    Thanks.

Take a look here about the MSE and DW problems.

    Blackcat,
    Thanks.
I just don't have enough faith in MSE, at this point, to get rid of DW.
I'm not really sure I would want to get rid of it anyway.
I hope somebody comes up with a solution.

Never noticed any of those problems, then again I've never been much of a fan of HIPS type products and such since my bad zemana experience. I'm feeling confident to try out MSE without ESET now, prevx free is still there though.

I've been running MSE with real time protection, and I'm amazed of how fast access to my USB drives is. Others would slow access, due to checking, even without setting them to check USB drives. But, MSE allows fast access. I'm really enjoying it.

I want to believe it will become better. ;)

its fast agreed but in xp unless i remove office live it won't start instead a office live folder opens. My question though is that is it potent enough to be used as the main av-resident +real time?
