Similar problem here, only difference is that it is a different Microsoft folder that pops up. I think it may have something to do with the MSE run path in the registry. I didn't spend much time with it before rolling back with Eaz-Fix. The right click scan function work really well for me but became unavailable after deselecting one of the real time options.

Wow! Why does the BBC, let alone the Symantec & AVG "oracles", even think for a moment that they're presenting a balanced view? People I talk to in the retail security app business are not so dismissive.

I'm not usually an MS fan but I've noticed for a while now apparent improvements to the capabilities of Windows Defender. In some cases it'll detect malware before the 3rd Party AV on a client's machine.

How does MSE compare against Avira in your opinion (purely detection and cleaning, not cpu/memory which are light enough for both)? To me Avira free is the gold standard of security for home users, it has never given me problems and caught everything. I am using MSE on a pc and like it so far.

Lol at AVG and Symantec. The ones who suck the most are the loudest. Isn't that funny? How come avast! team and AVIRA guys aren't compaining over it? They just see it as additional challenge like any other. But nooo, AVG and Smynatec have to make a big deal out of it. If you're crappy, thats not Microsofts problem. Improve your PR (and stop spreading BS) and enhance the program and you'll deal with MSE easily. But if you just compain and do nothing, then you'll stay behind the pack.

Actually well said. I did like Norton before, but it's missing too much, and I begin to like alternatives more. That's how it's always gonna be afterall. :) If they flop with their cloud-tech. coming in 2010-edition (yeah, what if it even doesn't :p), I'll certainly have even more second-thoughts on going back - 2011-edition is way too far away, and then they'll be too late with the cloud-thingie by miles.

Atleast I'm pretty sure that's the default scheduled scan-time, so he might have mixed the two.

If the definitions came through Automatic Updates, it would certainly be too much of a pain in the butt. :D I'm pretty sure atleast the definition updates come through the program itself, even if you ARE indeed able to download available updates manually through WU as well. I do hope that program updates is handled by the program itself as well.

No need to be so dramatic. ;)

I sure would complain, if Microsoft decided not to provided it for Europe, as in, not translating it to our languages, specially mine. Not that English is a problem for me, but it is for others.

Anyway, Microsoft is not that dumnb. :D The more using it, the better.

I hope it can be updated by the program itself. I hate having Windows Update set to auto because it then reboots my system after installing updates regardless of whats currently running. If it's an offline 3D rendering that takes hours to finish, Windows Update doesn't care. It just reboots when it wants to.
And thats lame. It should at least check if system is idle and reboot if it is. If not, leave it until its not working anymore or when user decides to reboot.

It would be stupid to happen that way, as it was stupid with Windows Defender. No idea why they still haven't changed the way Windows Defender updates.

Or, if they decide that way, at least make two options possible:

    - Automatically update Windows and other Microsoft applications, such as MSE

    OR

    - Manually update Windows and other Microsoft applications, but keep MSE to update automatically.

    This would make everybody happy.

I installed it with no problems and it felt nice and light.
Had the same problem with Windows Live Messenger.
Also had a problem of my pc starting to freeze, once at start up.
Removed Morro for now, but will use it when they fix some of the bugs.

I'll first install in on a virtual machine, along side other applications, and play with it for 2 or 3 days... My friend will have to wait until I make a decision... :D

It certainly sucks up resources but performance does not appear to suffer!

I have the program installed on a Vista Home (sp1) pc and Win XP pro (sp3) pc. It runs good on both but for some reason does not update automatically with my XP pro PC. I have automatic updates on etc..... I will post on their forum.

What does the MsMpEng.exe do in MSE anyway? It uses and insane amount of CPU time and virtual memory.
