I only have experience with IFW, IFD, IFL and BIBM. I have never used TBOSDT. How do you use TBOSDT to look at the partitions?

For Imaging with IFW, are there any changes to the IFW settings needed?

It is my understanding that Lenovo PC's/Laptop's have a Recovery Partition for Restores (like many of the PC/Laptop Manufacturers). If I want to make an Image of all 'needed' partitions, without including this Recovery Partition, are their any special IFW instructions/settings?

    Thanks in Advance.

Run TBOSDT as an Administrator. On Metro, right click the TBOSDT icon and click Run as Administrator. Then enter this...

    list HD 0

After your laptop arrives and you have made sure everything is working, boot from an IFL disk (latest version) and do an "Entire Drive" image to an external HD. That covers you for any future HD failure. Then you can install IFW and you only need to image the Win8 partition for future backups. Same settings as you have always used.

    Regarding boot disks...

    Thanks again for the information.

Do you think that IFL v2.81 or later on a USB Flash Drive made with YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Installer) work?

I guess that the best way to find out is to Test IFL v2.81 on the Windows 8 Laptop when it arrives.

I doubt YUMI will boot as I don't think it's UEFI. To get it to boot you would have to disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy BIOS. Hardly worth it because you would have to reverse these changes before Windows would boot.

It's up to you but I think using a UEFI IFL UFD will be easier.

    Thank you.

So to make sure that the newest IFL will boot, I need to make a CD/DVD with the newest IFL, and then boot the CD/DVD. Is that correct?

Yes, use a CD or a USB flash drive. I prefer the latter. You can use the UFD for other general purposes as well, such as containing data files as this doesn't affect IFL booting.

When you make the IFL UFD I suggest using the "USB Layout" setting of "Partition - MBR FAT/FAT 32 Partition (Int13h Extensions)". Use the Default Geometry setting.

Using Image for Linux 2.82a, I just finished Imaging the Lenovo Laptop to two (2) different USB hard drives and to a set of DVD's.

When I first turned on the Laptop, I did a Windows Update (both Critical & Important) before making the Images.

Question: When you install new software in Windows 8 (i.e., Antivirus, Sandboxie, Firefox, etc.), should you just execute the installer or should you execute the installer as Administrator (Run as Administrator)?

Laptop Battery Life: Should you leave the Power plugged into the Laptop when using it as a Desktop? Or should you disconnect the Power to the Laptop sometimes to allow the Laptop's battery to discharge some? What is the best practice for prolonging the Laptop's battery life?

    Thanks in Advance.

if you have UAC turned on it will let you know if it needs to be installed with Admin rights.

things that install to Program Files will need Admin rights to install if UAC is on.

As Brian pointed out, removing the battery seems a common and safe practice. I don't as I shift 3 of my machines very often, but on my new Samsung, the battery being inside the casing makes this operation time consuming and Samsung even suggests to have an authorized service centre to do the job. As a matter of fact the machine came with a utility which will limit the charging capacity to 80% apparently extending the life of the battery. There was an interesting debate about this topic in this thread, read from post #9:

Sorry I've just realized Brian had linked already to the same thread!
