    I think most developers don't really care who owns the platform - they just need a convenient place to store their code.

    Google might actually use them for their current purpose. On the other hand, Microsoft is the Borg ("You WILL be assimilated, resistance is futile.")

    Both (goo, ms) are losers to the users. Github will be on my black-list, when this happens.

    Resistance is not futile, only for losers, quiters.

    I will not be be assimilated, dont fold that easy.

    I really hate that term now "resistance", but it works both ways.

    GitHub took charge of previously named software "ClassicShell" - now known as "OpenShell" a couple months ago, about the time MS started to acquire them. Current download of the start menu they are developing is

    https://ci.appveyor.com/project/passionate-coder/open-shell-menu/branch/master/artifacts

    Many users seem to like this start menu and are pleased it is being continued. Maybe MS will take a clue about start menu from this. Or, they could do away with it, I guess just to enforce use of their 10 start menu.

    Such a serious comment! You do understand that my tongue-in-cheek quotation was not a statement of philosophy, but was taken from several episodes of "Star Trek - Encounters", right? Goood grief! :cautious:

    Never quite thought of it that way but by golly @bellgamin, you are absolutely right!!

    Good thing others are holding on to versions before 10 since the user is better able to "reverse assimilate" those platforms to conform to actually useful (and more peaceful) purposes and is fully capable of thwarting the Borg's implants for the most part. :geek:

    GitHub’s current CEO was Chris Wanstrath -- or maybe he still is, at least nominally. Part of his blog, not quoted herein as yet, says:
    M$ has stated that GitHub will remain entirely independent after its acquisition. Well.... according to my *tea leaves*, I give that M$ promise a better-than-50% possibility of being kept. After all, M$ made a similar promise when they acquired Winternals a.k.a. sysinternals.com (proponents of Autoruns, Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Sysmon, & several other really good apps). As it turned out, M$ actually did keep System Internals' apps, forum, etc, as a discreet entity: Windows SysInternals.

    Sorry your post is over my head - just not as informed as you, I guess. If I'm a Sheeple, it took me 83 years to get here. I could expound politically about Sheeple, but I won't in this forum.

    Sheeple = sheepish people = SHEEp + peoPLE. They even have their own news website HERE. That site is far from sheepish, however. Oi vey!

    Per Wikipedia:
    Ergo, whosoever uses "sheeple" in a post is possibly intending to insult someone? Or maybe it's a political statement of some sort? But then... political rants are frowned upon in these hallowed halls, right? Hmm...

    Anyhow, JohnBurns, your namesake was once governor of my home state. I was born when dinosaurs still roamed the streets of Waikiki -- ergo, I have ~5 years on you.

    Meanwhile, back at the topic -- I am now >60% convinced that M$ will do a good job with GitHub, whereas Google would not (IMO).
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    P.S. I am a sheep, too. The LORD is my shepherd...
