Please share your experiences with Microsoft Fixit.

I have almost no experience using Microsoft Fixit to fix Windows problem(s). However, I would like to know if I should recommend it to the average Windows user.

    Thanks in Advance.

Just tried today on my girlfriend's computer and everything worked as it should, the issue has been fixed - AERO is back again. :)

I am the kind that would rather do it myself just to be exactly sure of what was changed but I find the Fixit usually works as expected and would have no problem recommending it for the average user.

I have used it a few times, and seemed to fix the issue addressed.

In the few times I needed to use it, FixIt worked without issues.

I had an issue where my cd drive was not able to be recognized after I uninstalled iTunes. Fixit worked perfectly.

As with others here I find that it works as advertised,no issues for me.I mostly like to do things myself manually but on occasions this fits the bill and I'd recommend it.

Two or three times I used it all went well.
    I have confidence in it.

I downloaded portable Fix it (hxxp://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9775982) for offline use but it fails to download the necessary files when run. Anybody else tried this?

This is the same file that you get for any Fix it when you click "Advanced-Download to run on a different or disconnected computer." When you run it, it's supposed to download multiple Fix its for offline use. It doesn't work for me though.

    Worked for me, MrBrian.
    I downloaded about a 26mb file (the dialog claims it's 40mb).

Do you use a standard user account and elevate from there? If I remember well this Fix It download tool needs administrative privileges, correct? If so, elevating from a non-administrator account results in nothing.

It was quite frustrating when I tried to use it sometime ago. :D

    Thank you for trying this.

    @m00nbl00d
Thank you also. I think I tried running it as admin once. I also tried it in two virtual machines.

I guess I'll do a reboot, shut down all security software, and try again.

    What browser, MrBrian?
I had no prob with Chrome
in XP, recovered the file from Sandboxie folder
then opened it on my desktop.
I don't like the idea of you shutting down all security software
but I know you know exactly what you're doing.

Success on the physical machine! (running as admin in admin account with security software temporarily disabled). Out of curiosity, I then tried again in one of my virtual machines (with its security software temporarily disabled also), and it failed again two of two times.

Avast free and Prevx free are the ones I disabled. I also use some others such as EMET and AppLocker. :D
