Edge wants to take screenshots of every webpage you visit, here is why and how to disable it https://www.neowin.net/news/edge-wa...-you-visit-here-is-why-and-how-to-disable-it/

I'm using the stable build (in USA), not part of any "insider program," but I often find weird settings changes after Edge updates.
Microsoft Edge (Stable) Version 116.0.1938.54 Release date: Aug 21, 2023 Release notes for Microsoft Edge Stable Channel: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/d...ble-channel#version-1160193854-august-21-2023 ----------- Download and configure Microsoft Edge for Business https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download
v116 re-activated the stupid bing button (bing chat) and no GPO setting that far. you need to disable in settings --> "Discover".

This extension was installed without consent. Uninstalled: P.S. Other features that I have disabled: I also disabled 2 flags: Accessible Shopping Menu Browser essentials toolbar button hover functionality
Hmmmm, interesting, same here. I don't even know what Google Docs are, at least they left the extension disabled. Acadia
I'm seeing this on Windows 10 but not 11. Both up to date. This raises a lot of questions. ---My first being the source is listed as installed by default. You would think that it would be with the rest of them from the Edge Add-ons store, and not "from other sources". What source?
Nice source! Before you turn on offline access You must be connected to the internet. You must use the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser. Work on Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides offline - Computer - Google Docs Editors Help
I still want to know why this is being installed on users that don't use Chrome or Google Docs. I have no intention of turning it on and will likely remove it sooner than later.
See post 4 here, apparently it's a Controlled Rollout. https://www.elevenforum.com/t/google-extension-force-installation-on-edge.17491/
Kinda what I suspected. It looks like turning off allowing extensions from other sources will kill this. I may have to forfeit a couple of extensions and turn it off, and just use Edge less. I hope this was Microsoft's intention...
i dont have it either on win10 or 11. and gambling with settings is mandatory after update, in special, when the "Discover" button re-appears in v116 and has NO GPO. i see GPO as mandatory when using win pro or higher, to know when dealing with Edge, sorry. and chrome store is enabled to use. edit maybe helpfull, no experience about Code: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\ExtensionInstallBlocklist "1"="ghbmnnjooekpmoecnnnilnnbdlolhkhi" because off https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-docs-offline/ghbmnnjooekpmoecnnnilnnbdlolhkhi
Although the extension has not been reinstalled in my Edge, despite the fact that I have always enabled the ability to install extensions from the CWS,this policy will almost certainly block it. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-policies#extensioninstallblocklist
thx, this and other ADMX source do not give examples nor values. but i consider the ID as i gave in example because of this one https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/prevent-installing-edge-extensions-windows-10-registry/ but, with "1"="*" edge will refuse any installation that wont happen this way, because then they will break updates for purpose for users with a legit usage. to ask https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/support-for-offline-google-docs/m-p/826384 are you using some kind of user agent switcher? or google docs? or chrome although? there were earlier issues with this extension this year, and no conclusion.
www.ghacks.net/2023/07/07/madness-this-is-microsoft-installs-google-docs-offline-extension-in-edge-automatically/ Just FYI. I'll be using Firefox almost all of the time anyway.
according gHacks it happens when: Edge is Chrome inside - and i would bet that it would happen in Chrome too if not preinstalled (i have 4 or 5 preinstalled extensions in mind)
Send MS feedback through the browser. If they get enough feedback they may kill or reverse it down the road. Of course, don't hold your breath.
Microsoft snuck in a "Copy Video Frame" feature in the latest Edge 116 Stable update https://www.neowin.net/news/microso...feature-in-the-latest-edge-116-stable-update/

I use Chromium mostly for testing (especially the MV3 ad blockers) and Edge for one site that doesn't work with Firefox. I would never conduct banking business, etc. with anything Chromium-based.
