Microsoft today announced that Microsoft 365 apps and services will stop supporting Internet Explorer 11 from August 17, 2021. Microsoft Teams, one of the most popular communication tools, will stop supporting IE11 from November 30, 2020. After the specified dates, customers will have a degraded experience when using Microsoft 365 apps and services via IE11. And in some cases, they won’t be able to connect to the apps and services.
Here’s why Microsoft is ending support for IE11:

Customers have been using IE 11 since 2013 when the online environment was much less sophisticated than the landscape today. Since then, open web standards and newer browsers—like the new Microsoft Edge—have enabled better, more innovative online experiences.

We believe that Microsoft 365 subscribers, in both consumer and commercial contexts, will be well served with this change through faster and more responsive web access to greater sets of features in everyday toolsets like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and more.

Microsoft: Microsoft 365 apps say farewell to Internet Explorer 11

Today, we’re announcing that Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) by this time next year.

Beginning November 30, 2020, the Microsoft Teams web app will no longer support IE 11.

Beginning August 17, 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11.

Microsoft Teams will stop working for the users of Internet Explorer 11 from November 30.

The Microsoft Teams web app will no longer support IE 11. Users who have been using IE 11 will have to move to Microsoft Edge to be able to use it on the browser.
This is part of Microsoft’s push to move users to Microsoft Edge from Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has reminded customers that Microsoft 365 apps and services will drop support for the legacy Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) web browser next month, on August 17, 2021.

After the end of support is reached, those still trying to connect to Microsoft 365 may face degraded user experience or connection failures.

"These apps and services will phase out over weeks and months to ensure a smooth end of support, with each app and service phasing out on independent schedules," the Microsoft 365 team said earlier this week.
According to Microsoft, users experiencing issues when attempting to access Microsoft 365 apps or services after August 17 will not be offered support.

Exactly one year ago, Microsoft announced that it is ending support for Office web apps and Teams on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11). Although the latter dropped support on November 30, 2020, the rest of Microsoft 365 apps and services have dropped support for the legacy browser as of today.

As spotted by OnMSFT, Microsoft has some guidance available on one of its blog posts on this topic. Essentially, support for Microsoft 365 apps and services on IE11 has ended as of today. This means that you may be unable to connect to certain services or will have to make do with a poor user experience.
Moving forward, users should not expect new features to be added to Microsoft 365 services on IE11 and should also be mindful that they won't receive any support should they encounter any issue.
