Try clearing all the cache then performing a full system scan.
    Hope this will help.

Between 70-90MB can be considered normal afaik.

So 400MB is clearly not normal at all!

    Hey BALTAGY :)
Just some thoughts about your issue. See this article, it's about memory leak in Windows Filtering Platform (WFP): Increased program memory usage. It's probably not the key to your struggle, but it won't hurt to take a peek. Basically if I were standing with your problem I would open a case with Eset to get the support. If you do that I would create a Process Monitor log and a SysInspector log . It will give the boys from Eset "support" something to work with.

    o_O That's not normal behavior.

Contact ESET customer care to get this sorted.

I use ESS V5 and I have never seen reports about this issue in V5 before.
Some V6 BETA testers have reported similar behaviors but not with V5 that I know of.

FWIW, I just looked on my win7 64 bit.
    ekrn.exe *32 is showing a working set (Memory) of 172MB (176,176K). Now, I have 8GB RAM, so it's not a big deal.

yes, but try to keep your pc on and see if ekrn.exe take more than 800MB!!

what about users that don't have much ram?

and why just antivirus take that much ram, what about other applications?

Well...I'm looking at an Up Time of 5 days. ekrn.exe *32 is showing a Working Set of 177,888K.

Which Windows version are you running? XP is notoriously bad at memory control. I know you said that you have similar results on a variety of different systems, but...

I have version 5 on 3 Win7 64bit systems here. One is a laptop with much more limited RAM. That doesn't have enough UP Time for a comparison, but, I can't say that I have noticed any system slowing, either.

do those installs share a particular software configuration? (maybe another anti-malware application w/resident protection or something?) - i've deployed ESS v5 on lots of machines for clients and my own personal computers and i haven't run into memory utilization issues even with a weeks' worth of uptime.

This is an interesting suggestion. I have noticed an issue inherant to a Win7 OEM SP1 disk install that's explained in the following thread.

    http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/182280-wmi-event-id-10-root-cimv2.html

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc727223(WS.10).aspx

I feel that EVERYONE should run the fixit I shared in that forum after a fresh install of Win7 SP1 OEM disk.

Run this fixit http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9775756 and rebuild performance counters using lodctr /r with admin privilege and see if that helps.

Also I have seen this problem on a LOT OF MACHINES in my travels.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2328240

Performance Counters (I wonder error/issue affect on .NET applications...)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956

All three of these issues are rather systemic and I seriously wonder what affect it has on third party software.

It was confirmed for Anti-Theft which is not part of v5.2. I'd suggest you do the following:

With Self-defense disabled, generate a complete memory dump of ekrn by running "procdump -ma ekrn" when ekrn takes up too much memory. When done, compress it, upload it somewhere and PM me the download link.

The issue should be addressed in the next service build. I'll keep you updated about a hotfix.

I am wondering the same. My machine can reach 1.3-1.4Gb of RAM usage in just over a day.
