Just checked the new 5000 engine with 4249 DATs and it detected 54 samples by heuristics only from those 1016 samples, that VSE 8.0i was unable to detect without heuristics by using those same DATs. DrWeb scored 46 by heuristics only as the old 4400 engine too. NOD32 v.2.50.19 scored 345 with AH only. But remember, all my samples were zipped and many of those were even (runtime)packed too.

    Best regards,
    Firefighter!

Interesting. Thanks for that, FF :)

By heuristics do you mean just heuristics or also generic signatures?

With McAfee, both of them. The samples catecorized like this.

    Best regards,

I think the engine improvement is worth the small extra resources. Since 8.0 has always been using 36Mb mem for me since 4400.

Don't forget to actually participate if you are testing it (they actually listen). The newsgroup seems a little emptier than most beta tests since the newsgroup was created a bit late.

Beta 3 of the 5000 Engine is out.
Don't know if it's just me, but memory usage is finally back to what 4400 was.

for me, the memory usage for mcshield.exe is still around 35MB. But according to a post by McAfee Engine Beta Team in its forum, since July 25, in the released DATs, McAfee has enabled additional protection for Packers in the 5000 Engine.
