Thanks for your replies, Grumble and VikingStorm.

As a recent convert back to McAfee, I am learning all the time ;)

    Folks

Anyone knows if McAfee Enterprise Version 8.0 (with Host Intrusion Prevention (HIP) & Buffer Overflow protection) is compatible with Prevx Home Edition?

I am planning to upgrade to McAfee Enterprise Ver. 8.0 but is a bit concerned if there will conflict between both.

This is because both have HIP & Buffer Overflow protection but Prevx is more specialised and extensive.

    Advice?

    Cheers

    :D

P/s: I have just emailed Prevx and now awaiting their reply.

Chew I do not use Prevx so I cannot comment upon any possible conflicts.

    But some firewalls, Zone Alarm Pro and Tiny, have caused instabilities with the Corporate McAfee if BOP was enabled;

If Prevx offers the same BO protection, why not disable this overlapping function in one of the two programs, if you find that there are indeed conflicts between it and McAfee 8.0i?

If you find there are no instabilities and you enable BOP in the AV, make sure you have Patch 9 installed; http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=33624&highlight=buffer overflow protection

    Cheers Blackcat.

Yes, one way is to disable one of the BOP so they don't overlap each other. This may apply to the HIP too.

Anyway, I will see what Prevx got to say. Otherwise, I will give them a call at Milton Keynes.

    :)

Will this application scan incoming/outgoing e-mail such as Thunderbird?

    Thanks,
    Lon

Sorry, I was not very clear. My question was in regards to McAfee VirusScan 8.0i. I ask this because it seems as thought some will only work with MS products.

    Thanks,
    Lon

Nope, VirusScan Enterprise supports MAPI-based clients, such as Outlook. VSE also supports Lotus Notes.

My guess is that most enterprise uses Microsoft Exchange server, so it makes sense to support MAPI-based clients only. Therefore, I don't think POP3 or IMAP-based clients, such as Thunderbird, will be supported in the near future.

    I thought this as well.
But some people seem to run the Enterprise AV and ThunderBird as their email client o_O; http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=76789&highlight=mcafee enterprise
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=60053&highlight=mcafee enterprise
But those who have seem to lose their Inboxes on receipt of infected mail!

However, this may be due to Thunderbird and not a reflection of McAfee 8.0i; http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=75470&highlight=mcafee enterprise

Since I do not have the McAfee email scanner installed on my Home laptop, has anyone tried McAfee 8.0i with an email client other than Outlook or Lotus Notes?

Yes, regular update is every Wednesday. Like other AV companies, emergency update is made available during major virus outbreak.

Though, it's a lot easier to spread the daily dats. At the university, the clients all get the daily dats from the university server.

Ok thanks. I just downloaded SuperDAT package and it installed without any problems. Last time i tested on VirusScan 2005 it refused to install.
Version checking is INI based so i can make a autoupdater for daily updates weeee :) It was about time :)
