I agree. I thought your aversion to Mcafee was the privacy policy. No real privacy on net

(I know I've stated quite often that I'd drop McAfee Virusscan Plus 2008, but I have decided to wait for the new version of Counterspy that would/will offer protection against viruses)

One of the more serious drawbacks is that the program has the tendency to block my access to the internet, temporarily or permanently ... (I have a wireless connection)

Every one in a while, I check if (under 'manage network') McAfee recognizes my wireless connection, and sometimes it doesn't. USUALLY I can fix it.
I have the impression that this sometimes happens after an update.
(So much for keeping your system updated ...)
But on one occasion the only solution seemed a reformat of my harddisk and reinstallation of Windows XP.

Just too many hooks deep into my system.

At the time of updating McAfee the system will be slow and after updating process completes it will come back to the previous situation without any issues. This is because the updated files are added to the Virus definition location of the system so as installing or upgrading the definition files.
Also, to run latest mcafee, your ram should be over 512mb.
    Clear your temp-
    Click start.
Click on run and type %temp% and delete all files listed there.
Also, clean your cache. I'm sure you know how to do that! :p

No. I tend to have issues with that thing.

One of those is it messing with my security settings. Unacceptable.

(Today I had the same issue AGAIN, took more time to fix it).

Err, Fly, whats the point of posting then?
    No explanation=No fix.
You have a very good reason? and then don't ask please? don't you want it fixed?
IF you refuse to say anything, regarding your problem, its nobody to blame but you.

Now, do we really have to talk about blame ?

See it as a friendly warning, and perhaps a minor rant.

Regarding customer support: I can't reach them by phone for whatever reason (and I'm sure they'd tell me to run the virtual technician...), my chat attempts (since McAfee moved on to new chat software) either result in pop-ups all over the screen, or nothing at all, if I send them an email ... well, I received a 'reply' recently in which they apologized for being late with an answer (but no 'answer' in that email), and more than a month has passed since I contacted them by email. (Completely different issue btw).

Besides, in my experience in more than 50 % of all chats technical support doesn't seem to have a clue.

Their "support" is terrible. I would use another AV- detection is mediocre at best and lack of effective support should motivate you to try another AV.

Fly, i am trying to help, not blame, please take that in mind. Instead of just critisizing mcafee, which i am sure you have good reasons for, could you please tell me your problem?

    WHICH PROBLEM o_O

Recently the McAfee software has problems recognizing my wireless connection. Not a small thing. Uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless software ? Doesn't always work, I once had to do a full Windows XP reinstall to reconnect to the internet.

There are many other things I don't like about McAfee, as you could read elsewhere on this forum.

I am using mcafee 2008 just for the siteadviser and easy network functions.. I use ESET for virus etc..

Now here is the problem.. ESET 2.7 is seen by mcafee as a valid antivirus, yet 3.0 isn't.. and its now cause issues all over our network.

any ideas when this will be sorted.. I did report to mcafee weeks ago.
