Sorry if this has been addresses before, haven't found anything too recent. Using MWB free 4.1.0 and give it the occasional scan but I don't find any setting allowing me to be sure all drives are scanned. So I have to presume the appl scans "the system". Unless I'm missing something.

Guess if I want to scan a usb drive I'd just insert that and again hit the scan button. Finally, AIUI if the free ver finds any malware I can only quarantine or delete it using the premium version.

    Thanks for any feedback,

    Mac

With a Custom Scan, you can choose what and where you want Malwarebytes for Windows to scan on your system. Depending on what locations you specify to be scanned, these scans can take a long time to complete. To avoid long wait times, we recommend you use Threat Scans unless there is a specific location on your device you want to scan.

To customize a scan, click the Scanner card, then click Advanced scanners, then click Configure Scan. An example of the Configure Custom Scan page is shown below.

No, if the free version detects malware it will quarantine it. The free version just doesn't have real-time protection and I believe you cannot schedule a scan. You can manually run a scan whenever needed though.

They weren't exaggerating that MBAM takes a very long scan time. Over 1 hr 140 mins scanning the file system and still going...

A Threat Scan is sufficient and only takes a few minutes on my machines.

    Hello @aztony

@Krusty is quite correct. Once the first scheduled default Threat Scan has built the appropriate cache (and it's allowed to remain), subsequent scheduled/demand Threat Scans will finish quickly.

I do realize you are posting about the free edition of MB4...

However, if prolonged scan times are prevalent during normally recommended Threat Scans, an issue with the mass storage device may be indicated.

If during a Custom Scan, with all options is selected, long scan times are to be expected because of the thoroughness and depth of inspection - but may also signal an issue with the mass storage device. Some run a Custom Scan once and then rely on MB4's many mandatory protection levels offered by MB4 Premium thereafter.

I appreciate your input. Threat scan takes just over 5 mins. Windows reports that the HDD is healthy, so I think it's just taking MBAM a substantial amount of time to work thru 38.6gb.
