Many use MBAM on a daily basis, I would not go without it. As I've said in this thread already, MBAM is an excellent added layer of security protection.

I love MBAM. Its very consistant and never fails. It one of those programs that always work and never give me any troubles. Good old faithful.

MBAM is about as good as you can get, either free or paid versions.

Personal preferences are part of the freedom of choice, so we must not knock other users pride and joy`s. But, really, all the controversial discussion on the relative merits of one program against another is rather tiring and a trudge up the road of diminishing returns.

I have said many times - install Sandboxie and you can have any AV or AM program you like, it makes no difference. Any Mickey Mouse program will do. You will not get infected.

After reading an endless stream of posts on Forum`s comparing HMP to MBAM and X against Y, I cannot grasp how true enthusiasts can allocate such a colossal amount of time on such a wasteful subject.

OK, it may be of use to the millions of Granny`s and ignorant keyboard plonkers that only order their weekly needs from Supermarkets or those unnecessary goodies which make life seem great, but for users who know anything at all about the Internet, it`s high risk level and PC`s, it is nothing more than a fairly pointless gossip column.

Why aren't they offering the FREE version of MBAM 1.50.1?

Because when I go to the website:

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Then I click on "DOWNLOAD free version", but it then redirects me to a webpage that says "SHAREWARE Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50.1
Windows (All) / Shareware; $24.95" and doesn't offer a link to download the free version.

There's only one installer for both.

If there's only 1 installer for free version and paid version, then why does the website have 2 different links, 1 says free version the other says paid version?

Is it really needed to upgrade to 1.50.1 from 1.50? I am trying to save bandwidth this month. Do I really need it?

My MBAM Free automatically told me that a new version was available when I opened it as routine. I really did nothing except click YES and follow the wizard.

Now I have version 1.50.1.1100 - no rebooting needed.

    I wonder why mine doesn't.

Mine only gives a link under the Update tab that says "Click here to download the latest version". I actually missed reading that at first and didn't even know a new version was out until I read it on wilders.

Ok, I installed the latest version, but it asked me to reboot windows :( I hate that!:thumbd:

How come yours didn't ask you? Where did you get your installer from? Because it should ask you to reboot, seeing yours didn't that sounds dodgy.

Anyone else noticed that with version 1.50.1 that right clicking on files and other hard drives is no longer available? :thumbd:

I`m really sorry but I can`t explain it. Mine happened just as described, when I opened MBAM like I do about every two days a panel popped up saying there was a new version. I clicked YES and it just did what I said without me doing a thing except clicking this and that.

I have had MBAM Free for so long I don`t remember which site I downloaded it from, but I have a very strong hunch it was the MBAM official site. I always use official sites for software wherever possible. If they then divert me to their authorised link, then I use that.

My alternative favorites are Filehippo, MajorGeeks and Softpedia, in that order.

Puzzling. Perhaps some of our other brains will comment.

    Best wishes
    John

I have version 1.50.1 and right clicking files still works. I can also right click a drive and choose to scan with MBAM. Maybe something got messed up when you installed it.

I think this may be related to the reboot requested.

I noticed that when I ignored the reboot request that the context option went missing.

I am going to have QA do some testing to confirm this.

Yes that was it. Right click didn't work until I rebooted.

Why do we have to reboot anyway?

context as an program option has no relation to the reboot (to replace in-use files)
    "mbamext.dll" is not in use!

It can remain injected into explorer under certain circumstances and after checking with the code team they did confirm that this is the reason for the reboot.
