Should I run Malware Hunter Pro alongside Norton Security? I'm under the impression that it's like SuperAntiSpyware Pro?

The free version can be used as second opinion scanner. Since the Pro version offers realtime protection, it may be a bad idea. Unfortunately, Glarysoft do not provide any information on their to website to say if it can used alongside another antivirus.

I emailed Glarysoft and they said that it can run alongside an antivirus, so I'll give it a try.

It's really a ripoff of 360 Total Security. They have even copied some of the text, word for word.

^Yes, but not Web protection that I can think of. Would not recommend.

I just checked and they are using Avira for their cloud engine. They just no longer have local signatures.

This might be a bit of a problem because I do not know of a cloud engine that does not depend on at least some level of basic analysis from the host PC. with AVIRA gone from the local package, the only analysis that exists to pass to the cloud is the one done by the in house engine. A bug here or a stricter set of rules would snowball into major FPs and detection misses.

The alternative is that they implemented a cloud scanner program verbatim, which might be a problem in terms of bandwidth consumed. Of course, it's Chinese software, so you never know if they are sneaking in some collected data amongst all this traffic.

We do not know at the moment whether this is what is happening. Would appreciate it if anyone can provide more info.

I ran a scan and Googled some of the threats found. They were all names Avira uses.

Does this still work, even now that it doesn't use the Avira local engine anymore?

If you're asking about the free version, you can still use MH for free. It looks like they are only advertising the paid Pro version, but I was just able to do a scan and remove a threat without activating MH.
