The closest one to MD is Comodo D+ IMO.
I only wish MD was further developed on x64 and improved . . . :'(
I would have surely bought a license now that i can (Yes i'm working and yes i'm willing to pay for the software that i like) :thumb:

While I would like to see a 64-bit version of the program I don't think it has much room for improvement. No big ones anyway. Some bugs or minor tweaks, sure. Otherwise the program is quite complete and mature as it is.

No, there isn't a tutorial. Basically all you need to do is rightclick on the application in the main window -> Move to Group -> Trusted Applications.

After reading numerous threads I see that for many members MD is the preferred choice among HIPS. Although I am inexperienced when it comes to HIPS, I would like to try it to see if it really suits my preferences.
I know that MD also has a firewall component and so would like to know if it can be run alongside a different firewall. Currently, I am running Privatefirewall with avast. Thanks.

Yes, it can run alongside another firewall, however bear in mind that PFW has a HIPS component also, and this may clash with MD. In terms of being the preferred choice, it was always a very specialised choice - a love it or hate it application. Development of it has slowed substantially since Xiaolin moved to 360, however last time I used it it still worked great for me, and I still consider it one of, if not the best, HIPS ever produced.

1- Concerning use of MD as a Firewall -- MD provides Network Monitoring. HOWEVER, MD's creator/programmer (Xiaolin) has stated that MD's Network Monitoring does not filter low level packets. Hence, MD is nowhere near being the equal of full-on, packet filtering firewalls such as Private Firewall, Outpost, etc. [See HERE and HERE and a user comment HERE.]

2- Concerning possible conflicts between MD and Private FW's HIPS component --

a- Take note that MD is not compatible with 64-bit Operating Systems (OS). PFW works fine with both 32-bit and 64-bit OS.

b- In the past I ran MD and PFW together on WinXP for a few months without any apparent instability. However, there is always a potential conflict when running 2 HIPS.

c- The problem with MD is that it is weak against keyloggers. On the other hand, the HIPS component of PFW's latest version passes all keylogger tests of SpyShelter's POC, except for webcam and sound/mic logger protection.

c- PFW's HIPS component is easily turned off. If you do so, it would be prudent to run a dedicated anti-keylogger if/when you do highly sensitive business transactions (banking, etc). Examples of good anti-keyloggers are IDVault & Spyshelter.

I cannot be more thankful for the replies. Many thanks. :) I am aware of the possible conflicts that might occur as a result of running two HIPS. So I think I will give MD a try with PFW's HIPS module disabled.

I actually thought that MD's firewall had been updated since 2.6.0. But nothing has been changed.:(
