SS + MD gives you a VERY powerful HIPS duo, strong against keyloggers and just about anything else -- if & only if you thoughtfully/carefully respond to each alert. Also, MD's network settings can eliminate the need for a stand-alone software firewall, especially if you are behind a router.

Understood. Yes, I'm behind a router with firewall enabled in settings. I'm kinda overkill on the firewall thingy. I have Win's firewall disabled but MD's protection enabled along with Win 7 Firewall Control Plus. I really need to uninstall W7FCP but since I own the license and it doesn't seem to slow me down any, I just haven't done it yet. I also have all rules set up in Win 7's two way firewall but have it disabled. <---, That's probably the better choice to go with but I like the interaction of MD or Control Plus for some reason.

SpyShelter is leaning heavily towards a keeper.

Good to hear! I did some limited testing last night and didn't have any conflicts in my VM with this combo either.

If you decide to use MD's firewall exclusively, keep in mind that it fails Comodo Leaktest Suite's DNS Test. Couple MD with any firewall (I have personally tested MD with DeerField Visnetic Firewall v3.03, Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5, Tiny Personal Firewall v2.0.15A, Sygate Personal Firewall Pro v5.5.2525, PC Tools Firewall Plus v6.0.0.69, Jetico Personal Firewall v2.0.14, and Look 'n' Stop v2.0.7 (with a properly configured DNS rule)) if that is a concern.

EDIT: Updated due to my second statement being incorrect.

Yep, Mr. bellgamin is right as usual. This is an excellent combo. Also, SpyShelters popups are more informative than I would have expected.

Do you still fail this DNS Test if you disable the DNS Client service?

    Cheers

MD will pass the DNS Test.
But without DNS Client service you will have a DNS rule (Port 53) not only for svchost.exe but for every single app which connects to the Internet.
But this should not be a problem with MD, as it's easy to assign this DNS rule(s) to a group.

    Cheers

    Strange. o_O
I pass this test with XP and 7 if I disable the DNS Client service.
Don't you get this Port 53 prompt?

@subset: You're right, it does pass. Thanks for educating me on this. Back when I tested, I used a VM which has the DNS service enabled. I've since then built a VM which more closely matches my real setup and I observed the exact behavior you described. Sorry for spreading incorrect information in the forum. I've edited my original post to reflect this. Thanks again! :)

If you still do not have a copy of this file, check your PM. PM me back when you no longer need my help, so I can "shut down the open channel".
