    #1 says
the minimal i5 in your list was available in Q2/14
    https://www.intel.de/content/www/de...r-3m-cache-up-to-3-20-ghz/specifications.html

and the i3-4000M and i3-4100M were available in Q4/13
    https://thinkwiki.de/T540p

the lenovo page lists also windows 10, he is using windows 7, i dont think, he has one of the last machines, more one of the early birds. and this could be the reason that he cant use the m.2 as booting device.

thats the same problem as the video with m.2 drive, its not clear on which version of the T540p the author adopted the m.2.

    edit: typo

I am on Windows 11 Pro. I never thought of reducing the taskbar size until you mentioned it and I was able to do it using Start11. If you wanna do it without the help of any software, check this guide: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/change-taskbar-icon-size-windows-11

Both will be fine for running Windows 10 or 11. I was using a ThinkPad with a 2nd or 3rd gen i3 as my daily driver, until a a year or so ago. Windows 10 ran well on it and when I upgraded to Windows 11, there was a noticeable increase in performance.

win11 is x64 only, older machines may only have x86 drivers, or drivers are only valid until windows 7, there was a major change towards windows 7 and even win8 and later have issues with older drivers. myself had an audio driver, installs well, but crashes randomly in win10.

and win11 22h2 had a major change, win11 22h1 would run perfectly were 22h2 struggles.

That should only be a rare issue, as Windows 10 drivers will usually work fine on Windows 11. I've installed it on a number of computers with unsupported hardware and haven't encountered any driver issues. I would have installed on many more older computers, but I stopped doing it, when I discovered that new builds have to be installed manually on unsupported hardware, rather than being delivered through Windows Update. I even installed Windows 11 on a 17 year old Core 2 Duo laptop. There were no driver issues and performance was good too.

I have on occasion. But it's not specific to Windows 11. The best place to start is going to Optional updates, under Advanced options in Windows Update and see if there are any optional updates. Quite often there will be some driver updates there. You can select which updates you want to install. I generally recommend installing updates you think you may need, rather than every available update.

For me on my ThinkPad T540P almost all Drivers were recognized under W11P vs W7P64 where I had to download a half dozen or so from Lenovo. I believe I had to download HotKeys & SD Card Reader Drivers from Lenove for both 7 & 11.

It's hard to find. Why do you want 22H1 and not 22H2?

To get back to the original subject. "Making W11 as much like (my) W7 as possible."

How do I disable W11 built-in zip support? Do I have to go through every file type in Default Programs?

If you are using a third party archiver, it should have the option to see it as the default app for opening zip files.

Yes but W11 is holding on to some file types. And 7z doesn't show in the default view of the context menu. It's under that stupid More Options selections. Yeah how do I get the real context menu to show on right click instead of that BS limited context menu.

thank you, bookmarked. although i use d-opus.
sorry, for beeing late. my older computer got stuck on 22h1, 22h2 (inline update) runs fine, but it has a flaw for monitor sleep, it need ctrl-alt-del then abort to show desktop again. i altered monitor standby. maybe its driver related, i did not trialed the windows given due gaming.

Don't know if this will help. On a couple ThinkPads I've had Power Settings were handled by both Lenovo & Windows. Even though both had the same Power Settings whenever I put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid when I opened the lid it would BSOD. When I uninstalled Lenovo Power Management program no more BSOD.

i dont use lenovo for reason - i read enough about lenovo software to avoid its software, and thus its hardware. in 22h1 it worked, in 22h2 not (inplace update).

22h2 had several changes inside, is not only me to have experience with issues (no BSOD). its like your experience, slight changes = big deal. some cant settle on its previous settings nor behavior.

Found a M$ approved way to restore the old rt click context menu to W11. So much better for me.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-11/a62e797c-eaf3-411b-aeec-e460e6e5a82a

Restore the old Context Menu in Windows 11

    1. Right-click the Start button and choose Windows Terminal.

    2. Copy the command from below, paste it into Windows Terminal Window, and press enter.
      1. reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve
    3. Restart File Explorer or your computer for the changes to take effect.

    4. You would see the Legacy Right Click Context menu by default.

That's the same method detailed in the link I posted.
    Maybe this will help.

did i already mentioned that i dont like any videos to explain something which only needs one sentence?

i am already on max power setting and that is already off. teh rest is pointless and well know, at least sfc after powercfg is totally useless.
an inplace upgrade do not alter such settings. the monitor do not wake up when set to sleep in 22h2, but this only the older one and i dont care.
