when you create a media, click advanced options, then select PE 5.0 from the drop down menu.

    hi thanks
from which version Macrium Reflect can restore to a smaller drive?

"on the fly" can you tell me the steps to do to restore an image to a smaller drive with Macrium Reflect?

i did the example of image for windows (terabyte) ,it need
    1) to compact the source(defrag)
    2) create the image
    3) restore

I did this yesterday so know it works fine. A quick search of the online-help for the word "smaller" found this in the "Restore Partition Properties" section of the restore chapter (I think the words partition and drive are analogous in this case).

Just do the restore and Macrium will take care of the rest. There's nothing special to it. It'll warn you that the target drive/partition is smaller, but as long as there's room for the data, that's it.

Or back up, switch the drives and restore. That's how I've done it in the past. It's always good to have a backup kept safe somewhere anyway.

What do you think would happen if you didn't disconnect the source/original drive?

No, it would boot to the source/original drive and then the copy would be seen as a new drive letter.
    Unless:
You changed the boot order in BIOS to boot to the copy and then the source original would be shown as a new drive letter.
    But:
You wouldn't really want to see both drives so you'd want to disconnect one of them, after the copy step and before the subsequent boot.

The best way is to do the copy, disconnect the source/original, boot to the copy and make sure it's OK. Then you can just leave the new drive connected and keep the source/original as a backup (if it's a healthy drive).

    Hi Mantra,

On my ASUS Laptop, when the computer is started, I press the ESC Key, and it then gives me a Menu with the option which attached device I want to boot from. Most computers have this facility, but the Key might be different.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

I don't have this option so I didn't know about it. Mantra may or may not have it.
Mantra hasn't stated what he has as a final objective so it's hard to help him.
I assumed that he'd installed a new drive inside his PC, but maybe not, he didn't say(?). If the copy was to an external drive via USB then there would be different instructions.

After buying Reflect Pro I did what I'd suggested: opened my PC full tower case, installed and connected a new drive, copied and then physically disconnected the source drive (I left it in the case but powered OFF) and then verified in BIOS that the PC would boot to the copy (which is still there and is my system drive).

When I feel the need to verify a Reflect restore, I connect the 'old' drive (Sata cable & power) and restore to it and then boot to it, after making changes in the BIOS, etc.

It would be nice if Mantra would provide a comprehensive description of his objectives.....and equipment, etc.

    Hi JW,

Fully agree with the above statement. Mantra has been going at it for more than a month, and still I am not sure what he is trying to accomplish (his objectives.....and equipment, etc.).

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

    Re: Disk Space Management Problem

I have Macrium Reflect running on 4 computers with a weekly differential backup scheduled and a monthly full backup scheduled with Disk Space Management set to keep a maximum of 2 full images and for it to purge before it runs the update.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work on any of my computers.
The Macrium support forum is next to useless, in my opinion.

Do you guys know why Disk Space Management is not working?

    PS: Another update.
    It is now v5.2.6465.
