Hi Steve, CASPER is very reliable and it co-exists nicely with AX64. On one of my computers, it had a EUFI partition on the HHD. I was not sure how to just move my "C" (OS partition) to SSD and have it boot. CASPER did an excellent job on cloning with AX64 installed. And, I replaced my HDD with SSD without a hitch. Best regards, Mohamed
Well, I reported it on the Macrium Forum, but it didn't do me any good. They just sent me this link: http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50202.aspx And I checked that out and all is OK as per above link.
Thanks, Mohamed. For the record, I sent an inquiry to Future Systems (Casper developer) and they responded almost immediately. I'm definitely going to try it out.
Update: have tried it out, and was so impressed that I have purchased it. The clone-to-disk feature is superb: very quick (30 minutes to clone my 63GByte main drive), and no better way to test/restore an image than to simply swap out the drives. It's so fast that - for my purposes - there's no need to use a snapshot program. I think I have found my replacement for AX64, which unfortunately for me has been very unreliable.
im also interested in buying a lic for casper to have in my arsenal but do you know of any discount codes or anywhere they might offer any discounts. it would not be my main app but one to have for testing and use here and there (i won literally just about every backup / image program out there) i liked it when i tested it but put off buying it at 50$
I'm still having a little trouble understanding Macrium's deletion of old backups in disk space management. I've created a backup of my D drive (my data). Obviously it was a full image. I've scheduled this backup definition to run as an incremental backup every night and enabled disk space management to keep a maximum of 2 full backups. So does Macrium keep loading up the backup drive with incremental backups or does it create a new backup every x days? Thanks!
Macrium Reflect v5.2.6462 Released A new version of Macrium Reflect was released some hours ago. Macrium Reflect v5.2.6462. Is PE 5.0 available with the free version? Is it correct that images made with the previous version can still be used to restore?
Yes about 400MB download. I have Windows 8.1 ADK installed however the program just could not pick up the Boot.wim from there. It still asked to download the PE files by default, until you select custom WIM.
Hi, Once you download it in one computer, you can then copy it form that computer to another computer. It is under ProgramData > Macrium > Reflect > Windows Kits > 8.1 You need to copy the complete 8.1 sub-directory to another computer to the same location. Best regards, Mohamed
Or you can click "Create bootable rescue media", click "Advanced" and select Windows PE 5.0 Rescue Media and when it can't find the files, choose the "Browse" button and point it at where you have the PE zip file, and Reflect will extract all the folders and files to that location for you. You can cancel after that.
Re: Macrium Reflect v5.2.6462 Released I am running win 7 x64 and have already created a PE 4.0 rescue media, what advantages if any would I derive from creating a new PE 5.0 one?
Re: Macrium Reflect v5.2.6462 Released seems to boot up faster with pe5 from the boot menu. (win7 x64 sp1)
Update again today: Bug Fixes: 5.2.6465: •Windows PE 3.1 build problems The Windows PE 3.1 rescue media build process could error with "An error occurred mounting the Windows Image File". This has been resolved
Thanks Aladdin and Stigg, yes that's what I meant, you have to use the adv option to browse to the location of the Boot.wim or the downloaded zip. You can also use a customized WIM with other apps installed.
Yes I got the same error message when creating PE5 with build 6463. Edit: got the same error message with PE5 again with the new build. It's a shame it appears the programming skills at Macrium degraded recently. I mean, come on, 3 consequent releases within 2 days and still can not solve all the "boot media building" problem.
Re: Macrium Reflect v5.2.6462 Released Besides the possible BOOT speed increase, all the ongoing versions of PE contain the most updated driver sets that M$ has certified. This will make a big difference when needing the use of various wi-fi interfaces as well as the newer USB3 interface.
hi can the last versions restore to a smaller drive on the fly? for example i have 30gb on a 256ssd and i want to restore to a drive of 128gb can i do it on the fly? for now i use image for windows , and i had to use compact(a sorf to defrag) before create the image
I don't know what you mean by "on the fly", but you can restore to a smaller drive. I've done it in the past when upgrading to an SSD which was smaller than the HDD I was moving from.
