I tried all sorts of things to try to trip up Macrium's internal task scheduler during the beta. And I did find a number of things initially. In fairness, some of them I only found as a result of doing things during my test case setups that would seldom or never happen under normal circumstances, like changing the system's date and time all over the place. But I tested some bizarre scenarios anyway since those scenarios tend to be where the bugs are, and often fixing them might also benefit real world use cases. (Apparently one bug I found only occurred due within a split-second window where it was possible for two different areas of the code to have different system times after a DST transition.) Anyhow, Macrium fixed every last thing that I found and even implemented the enhancement requests I submitted for the UI. Hopefully others have a smooth experience. :)

I didn't have to pause it to install this update. This update was larger than previous were and it also went through all steps - like with initial install.

After update I was welcomed by this message:

    upload_2020-10-14_21-38-44.png

I converted them and tasks in Windows Task Scheduler were removed.

^ I believe Macrium is forcing a full installer download rather than making an incremental patch download available for this release, which would explain both the larger download size and the full installer experience.

Hold your horses with this update, today after making a full back-up, ejecting the USB drive, the machine bluescreened (greenscreened nowadays). It happened in the past with a MR update and they've done it again, quite frustrating and silly if you ask me.

^ CBT bugs strike again, because 7.3 included a CBT update. I don’t have CBT installed exactly because it has seemingly Whac-a-Mole problems like this, and it doesn’t meaningfully benefit any use cases of mine, so it’s simply an unfavorable risk/reward proposition.

All problems reported with 7.3 in the Macrium forum as of this writing have been solved by uninstalling CBT, or avoided by not having it installed in the first place. But Macrium apparently provided a new test CBT driver to at least one customer, who confirmed it fixed the issue around inability to eject disks.

If you have a greenscreen rather than a bluescreen, it’s because you’re running a Windows Insider build.

This is why the colour is green, you are right my version of Windows is with the beta channel. I guess MR will issue a new update soon fixing the CBT bug, in the mean time I'll try to go back to the former version. The blue/greenscreen was bad though, as Windows asked to reboot to fix disk errors...

Thanks guys. I'll sit tight till they get their software working. I guess it was rushed out too fast.

As a precaution it's better to wait, but keep in mind that it might only happen with some machines including mine.

I shall definitely be trying it, initially with my 'misbehaving' Windows Task Scheduler schedules.

Don't use CBT either, but may wait for an update.

A patch v7.3.5283 has been released:

    Bug fixes and Improvements v7.3.5283 - 15th October 2020
    • Changed Block Tracker
When removing a USB attached storage device, an APC_INDEX_MISMATCH BSoD could be generated if there was an outstanding kernel lock on the device. This has been resolved.

I work for a software company and sometimes it is not an issue of too fast as much as just not having a configuration for testing that the issue happens on. It can be quite an embarrassment when you release something you thought was tested reasonably well and it hits the public and starts blowing up.

Thanks Jack. I see how that can be. You just can never anticipate and test every possible situation.

When I looked into this issue more, I found that the free version of reflect doesn't even have CBT. So, I guess I'm safe from this bug. Sometimes I wish there were more features supported in the free macrium, but sometimes I'm glad it doesn't have the fancy stuff. And the ability is good enough as is.

I am always grateful for the reflect program. I know it works reliably.

I've just updated to version 7.3.5283, and after thoroughly checking with a full backup and restore, ejecting the destination USB is now normal, no more blue screens. What I like about MR is how quickly they react to bugs, and most importantly in my experience, there is always a way to return to a safe image of the system, very impressive indeed.

CBT can be skipped on install. I do not use it. I run the paid version for incrementals. If differentials are good enough than the free version is a great option.

The internal scheduler using v7.3.5283 looks promising.

At least one of my 'problematic' scheduled backups, which would have done a full backup instead of intended differential under Windows Task Scheduler, worked correctly last night.
Looks good to go on my other Windows instances.

Hahaha. Jack, it's more that; I'm old, retired and have to watch every penny just to pay my bills. I'd love to have network attached drives running 24/7 so scheduled backups would work. Heck, I'd also throw in a new computer while I'm wishing. :)

Seriously though, I'm very grateful for what I do have. I've tried several backup programs, and macrium's is the only one that made sense and has ALWAYS worked when I needed it.

In fairness, the first two are serious issues for those affected, so I’m sure they would prefer a fix sooner rather than later. And this patch covers everything that’s been reported on the Macrium forums up to this point, I believe (UPDATE: maybe not?). So at least they got it all into one patch. Obviously having gotten it right in the first place would have been ideal, but that’s not the world we live in.

I've just updated to version 7.3.5289. My usual backup/restore test was successful including ejecting the USB SSD storage device without a bluescreen.

    +3 :D.

But just to confirm the internal Task Scheduler is a definitely a positive development (for me at least). No issues detected yet.

    Hello,

New HDD, Macrium Reflect Home, same computer:

Do I have to deactivate the license in my primary HDD or I need to buy another license?

I bought a HDD with more capacity and I want to install MR Home in this new HDD (Clean Install Windows 20H2 home x64)

    Thanks
    Camelia
