Still having problems creating the recovery environment on a usb stick. Having just updated a laptop and two pc to the latest versions 7.1.2xx I had no issues burning the recovery media on CD and they tested fine. However I would still like to use a usb stick with confidence but while I had managed it before, today I can't even get properly started. I know I have to get the stick prepared according to the user guide, so I went through dispart, listing the disks etc. While my stick shows up in the list, once I try to select it just says "the disk is not valid", so I don't even get to the part where you clean and set as active. What am I doing wrong?
Strange... All your disks show up with no space available. Are you running that COMMAND PROMPT window as ADMINISTRATOR?
Hi Froggie, yeah I am using Win 7/64 and thought I followed the instructions to do the elevated command prompt as per Macrium user guide. Just took another screenshot to show both Disk manager and diskpart display - Disk 2 in this is my stick.
You should remove the brackets from the disk number. So instead of select disk (2) just type select disk 2
Thanks guys - silly me, removing the brackets dealt with that. Tested this and it works fine on two pc. Next time the recovery environment gets updated, do I need to do anything specific or just use the same stick and create the new environment via macrium other tasks/create rescue media. In other words, will it then just overwrite or is there any other procedure necessary to prepare that stick again?
W10 x64, MR v6.3.1852! Have owned it for several years and love it. I image from/to (overkill!) SSD/two internal SSDs on PC I built and two external drives. Incremental(s) to the internal SSDs always attain write speeds of 9xx b/s, however, it just went over gb/s. This was a first for probably hundreds of backups! Does the current v have some improvement? Thank you!
Although the current v7 does "test" your internal machine disk paths for their optimum thruput (cached/uncached/extensive buffering/etc.) when it first installs/images (a one time operation), the "adjustment" results for SSD-based Systems do not make much difference at all as far as disk bandwidth is concerned. They sometimes do make a difference when HDDs are in use but the difference does not appear to be dramatic. IMHO, I don't believe this feature alone is worth the price of an upgrade from v6 to v7... it sounds like your imaging speeds are just fine.
Hello Froggy.......what is the difference between 6.3.1852 and 1849? Don't spend any time looking at it. I will except whatever first comes to mind. Thank you.
Hello @Rainwalker, Changes to Version 6 since version 6.3.1849: Note: 1855 only applies to Windows 7 and 10 32 bit systems, so the latest for 64 bit systems is 1852. The only documented change is the fix for "EXT 4 File System image size" bug concerning Linux systems, so if you are only using Windows, there is no real change from 1849 to 1852... From Macrium Reflect Version 6 Patch Details. I hope this helps...
@Rainwalker - if you are a current v6 (or v7) user, at any time you may use the "Help/Release notes" menu item to look back through all the releases since that major version was released to see the release differences... a very handy feature. Thanks @puff-m-d !
Hello @TheRollbackFrog, You are most welcome ... Thank you for reminding me about the "Help/Release notes" menu item as I tend to forget about it !
Thank you Frog, however, what I meant is the current v6 version faster than previous v6 versions? No biggie, I was just surprised I went over a gig!
The v6 I/O bandwidth hasn't changed in a long time. What you may not realize is that the WRITE bandwidth (speed) is not pure I/O speed... it is a best guess based on the ability to compress the output DATA before written. The more compressible the DATA, the higher the bandwidth number calculated will be. You really shouldn't pay much attention to the imaging speed rates that they show... they only mean something if something seriously happens to the raw device speed with either the TARGET or the SOURCE device, then there will be a large difference noticed.
Hellouuu! I have a lot of question about this software buuuuuuuuuuut I am not going to read more than 255 post Can you create a Macrium Reflect's Recovery Media Builder? Or boot from a DVD or pen drive? Thanks Camelia
Reflect contains a Recovery Media builder and can create UEFI-GPT and/or LEGACY-MBR DVD/CD/UFD Media types.
Just remember if you are using a brand new USB drive you will need to make it bootable. Macrium has a help topic to walk you thru this. You only need to do it once. If you want to do this, I will dig out the link and post it for you
Ok it contains a Recovery Media builder, that is very good, the rest I did not understand a thing... Can someone please help me with the basic? What is a PE Image a WIM and a Windows PE environment? Yes, please Update: I create the Rescue.iso Thanks Came
Go to this link: http://kb.macrium.com/knowledgebasearticle50210.aspx Then scroll down to where it says: File System At Start Of Disk (Error Code 2) Those are the instructions you want. Pay close attention to the disk no. selection as it has no labels. Check for the disk size to help identify. Pete
