Is there any indication when the hourly backup regime will be available? I would like to get AXTM off my PC.
Hi Barry What I don't understand is you can do it now. I have it setup to do images every half hour until 11:30 and then just hourlies until 5. They are pretty quick. Pete
Well, sure ... but Pete's what I call a "tinkerer." That means he knows his way around both his System and the Windows Task Scheduler. I think what BG is looking for is support for those types of options directly within the Reflect UI... one of the promises made for "shortly after the release of v7."
Actually, all though guilty as charged I did my schedules completely with in the GUI. I did it my adding a schedule for each time I wanted. Not the easiest, but not at all that difficult.
Yup, I am lazy,,,,,I do not want to mess around with the setup, especially since I have AX64 to do the hourly snaps,,,,I use it (AX64) to grab individual files that have been created since my last image with Macrium. Not to do system wide restores. Would prefer to have MR7 do the job for me.
Barry, this isn't exactly hard. When you build a new backup image, you can create a definition file. When you do that there is one place where you can add schedules. It is totally menu driven, takes 10 secs to add a schedule. So you just keep adding schedules until you have the hourly schedules you want. You just do this ONCE. Then you are done. I have mine setup so it runs 9 to 5, Then at the end the day, I do a differential. I have it set to keep for diffs, so it's self cleaning.
It seems like I do not get a chance to do anything on my system lately but update Norton, Windows 10, and software...including V7!
I know Peter but I do not want to have to manually create 24 schedules, its too much work, especially given that I have hourly backups in AX64. And yes, AX64 is not extremely reliable but the snapshot taking part of it is and thats what I care about at this point. I use MR6 for restores and AX64 for file recovery if nec. I look forward to V7 so I don't need 2 programs to do what should/could be done by one.
Why not use "Windows Task Scheduler"? Simple & easy......... I am using WTS, scheduled "every 2 hours".......works fine......
OK, I never noticed ViBoot before on my desktop. Are they saying I can "boot" an image and use it? Can I boot an XP image on my Windows 10 system? I am not sure why this is better than just giving the image a drive letter or are they saying you actually boot the image?
You need software that is not available to most users. To boot the image you need a Microsoft special software before you can use Viboot.
OH...so why did Reflect put ViBoot on my desktop? Their demo does not show that you need anything special.
Macrium viBoot - What does it need on the system? And how to check if I have that on my system? I thought you need to enable Virtual technology in BIOS but it gives error & mention needs Hyper V 6.03 or above.
I want less work, not more. AX64 was very simple, install it and it runs every hour, I am hoping MR7 does something similar (eventually). In the meantime MR6 and AX64 work just fine.
Mine is Win 10 Pro with latest updates. Is Hyper V different than the Virtual technology mentioned in BIOS?
Win10-Pro has Hyper-V, home does not. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/quick-start/enable-hyper-v And yes, this technology built into Reflect v7 allows you to actually boot an image created with Reflect. It's the ultimate way to verify that an image was successfully created. Of course, there are many other helpful uses as well. I LOVE this addition! Sadly, I can't use it. I use VMware Workstation and you can't have Hyper-V and Workstation installed and usable at the same time, especially if you're running 64 bit VMs in Workstation.
