Huh. At a nonprofit that I volunteered at a few years back, one of the sysadmins swore the demolition work a couple blocks away was making server HDDs fail. The other sysadmin thought he was imagining things... Well, maybe not.
this is exactly what happened few weeks ago with the romanian branch of the dutch ING Bank. Following a fire extinguishing exercise in their data center, the whole system failed, causing an almost full day of complete interrupt of business: no ATM's, no cards payments, no internet banking. this one was an absolutely first incident of this kind for the banking system.
