    I know this is posted in a wrong forum, but nobody seems to be minding LookNstop forum these days.
    Curiosity got the best of me and I ordered LnS.
    I paid by Paypal. It went through Nexway which appears to be a PayPal outfit.
    The order is completed. My credit card was charged. It's so reflected on both my US access as well as all in French.

    Today I got a letter, in French, from verif (at) nexway (dot) com regarding my order.
    I can understand a bit, such as send us national card or some permit to conduct something (I don't know what) or passport.
    If I send what they want, I will get LnS licence.
    If I don't reply in 5 days my order is cancelled
    .
    I sent a short reply to that email, in English. Haven't heard a word yet. I can't write French. I can't find anyplace on the LnS site to do anything.

    Why would my identity be required to use a firewall?!?!?!?!?!?
    WHAT DO I DO NOW?

    I didn't use paypal, but totally agree with the above post. always had first class service, sometimes take him a day or two to get back to you though.

    @ellison64,
    I did fill out that form earlier today.
    No reaction, no reply, nothing.
    It's totally bizzare and I'm at a loss.

    @stratoc,
    Judging from the LnS forum section here, the service is fabulous, as is this firewall. So it's all a big surprise to me what's going on.

    I don't know, every reply I have ever had has come from fredrick himself (or signed from him) sometimes took a day or two, I would sit tight and not send anything to anybody. It was 5 years ago, but im sure all I gave was email address and name.

    You could try filling in this form ,which mentions problems with payment.....
    http://looknstop.nexway.eu/contact.html
    In the past I always received replies too.DO NOT send any other info .Im sure Frederick or his associates will sort it out for you,though as stratoc said ,it may take a day or so ,depending on time zones etc.Also might be worth checking the headers on the email/letter you received .Maybe there's some info there that can be gleaned.

    @ellison64,
    Once again, thanks a bunch. Checking the mail headers was the first thing I did. They look ok to me. I'm no expert, but everything seems related. With one exception of the private network address, but it's most likely the computer responding from nexway/paypal.

    No, of course, I will not send any of the requested information. Send passport to France? Over my dead body.

    In one of my earlier queries to one of several I sent, I may have given a wrong invoice number.
    So a bit of response delay is to be expected.
    But I have tried every possible route including a correction, and still no reaction and no license. And I'm aware of the 4-6hr time difference.

    I now wonder if, to get a license, there is an undisclosed requirement that the email address PayPal holds for me matches the email address given to LnS when they ask for it during buying of the firewall.
    It's the only thing so far that I can think of that derailed this transaction.

    I bought LnS last month through paypal. No problem whatsoever, the license was sent through email on the same day.
    Maybe you can contact lns support to clarify it.

    Thank you very much for posting since you've used PayPal. I did contact several places and do hope that, perhaps tomorrow, I'll hear some clarification as none of this makes sense, nor should happen.

    Do you have your identity verified through PayPal? It may be a PP security measure. I know 99% of companies wont send anything without a verified address or bank account on file with PP .

    Good point. Not sure how to find about "verified".
    At the bottom of the details of my order my shipping address is "Confirmed", not that anything needs to be shipped :)
    On the original email confirmation from French Paypal (service at paypal.fr) it says
    Adresse de livraison: confirmee, so clearly both Paypal sections are ok.

    Update - it's hopeless.
    I expected some action from LnS. Working hours are over in Europe at this point.
    Today I got an English version of the same unbelievable request:
    I replied, this time in English, that I'm not complying with this unreasonable request, will send nothing.
    I wonder when on Monday they cancel the order they will refund the money they got from my credit card.

    Looknstop reputation is at stake here, but I guess nobody's minding the business.

    Hmm sorry to hear its not working out.I certainly wouldn't send any more details.You have already given credit card info ,and I assume name and address ,and that's enough for anyone to verify in my book.I would imagine that the card will be refunded.It also highlights whether all is ok with Frederick at looknstop.I'm sure there's many people watching this thread ,and wondering what the outcome will be.

    Theres some info in the general terms and conditions of sale ,including an english email address ,and details on cancelling the order within 7 days.From what ive read ,if they have taken your money then they are obliged to provide you with a download link and serial.

    I also find that very unusual for them to want visual ID sent...what for ?!

    I paid via RegNow, but that was a couple of years ago...even so they just sent me a serial with no problems like this.

    I`d want to know exactly why they feel the need to acquire extra proof.

    Already told you guys. :rolleyes:

    There is not a single vendor that will accept PP without the proper documentation.

    I had inadvertently overlooked your suggestion whitedragon about verification - that sounds like it could be just the thing that`s causing this.

    act8192, you will see if you have verified your account by logging into Paypal and it will say towards the top of the page: "Status: Verified"

    Thats strange,

    I have made 3 purchases using paypal in the last 2 weeks (I only checked back that far), from 3 different vendors. I am not verified with Paypal (no way are they getting my bank details), and no problem with purchase or need to forward info.
    I have just made a purchase now from gog.com, the others where Plimus sales and overclockers.uk

    Same as Stem here. I have used Paypal without any "verifications". Requiring ID information on internet sounds kinda fishy anyway. Here in Finland it is actually illegal to ask for information like that without a proper reason.

    act8192,

    I have used paypal for years, do *NOT* give any more personal info, paypal has no verified bank or other info on me other than my credit card, they don't need more (though they will ask), this looks like a verification issue on your card.
    I would be careful at this point.

    @ParaNodes,
    My card is fine. PayPal charged it. Bank recognized it. PayPal never asked me for any information. This is some screwup of the middlemen between LnS and PayPal, likely Nexway. I'm careful, and my Bank is aware and said they monitor things.

    @stratoc,
    There was https all along far as I recall. If they faked it, it's a darn, good fake. Also I see nothing nefarious in my credit card. Yet. You'd think by now they'd wipe me out if they're fake.

    @whitedragon551 and Fad,
    I see that link to verify. It says "Get verified". I see no need. I don't have an account at PayPal. I'm not doing it. They have my credit card#, that's enough.

    During this and past few years I bought a bunch of things and paid through PayPal and nobody, not one seller, caused any such problems. And anyway, if "verification" were an issue, then their list of required documents isn't relevant since they don't even ask what "verification" would ask.

    @Stem,
    Good to see you here. Do you have any idea how to contact a human being at LnS and not those meddling middlemen?

    Gee, this thread is going soooo OT from the firewalls ... I want to hide under a rock.

    Using PayPal

    There are two ways to set up a PayPal Account: using a credit card for each transaction, or linking to your bank account. The latter is what "verification" refers to.

    This is very handy if you do a lot of transactions on ebay, for example. Most people I know have a separate bank account for linking, and keep just a little bit of cash in it. When someone purchases your item on ebay, he will "deposit" the money into your PayPal account.

    From PayPal:

    regards,

    Just some thoughts. I had to follow a similar verification procedure on Paypal after I created my account for the first time, because I live in one of their "problematic" countries. Everything went well, and I can use my Paypal account now (the account is "Verified").
    Since then, I managed to buy a lot of things just fine, however, I encountered a similar problem when I tried to buy a magazine from US. Even though Paypal already verified my address by requesting a lot of documents, the payment processor for that magazine notified me that they can't trust my address and they won't send anything. After a talk with them, everything was solved, but keep in mind that even if you have everything in order, you still might get some nasty surprises from some payment processors.
