Looking for a third-party Search/Index program. The built-in Search on my Win10 has never worked very well. Sometimes it works for a while then stops. Sometimes it finds the words in some docs but not others. I have deleted and rebuilt the index many times. I am mainly interested in searching the content (words contained) in my Word docs and Excel spreadsheets. It does not matter to me if it is free or purchased, just so it is simple to use and reliable. Thanks all, Acadia
Everything by Void tools is quite good. https://www.voidtools.com/downloads/ https://www.voidtools.com/faq/#does_everything_search_file_contents
Thanks stapp. However from what I have been reading, Everything does not search words contained in documents. Acadia
For word search in documents: Word, Excel, Email, PDF, Text etc https://sourceforge.net/projects/anytxt/ On first run you have to wait for the index to be built.
Agent Ransack or its paid version with more features, FileLocator Pro, seems to be what you are looking for. https://www.mythicsoft.com/filelocatorpro/ https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/
Actually, Everything does search within documents. https://www.voidtools.com/faq/#does_everything_search_file_contents Does Everything search file contents? Yes, "Everything" can search file content with the content: search function. I like Everything a lot. However, I also really like Locate32. You can find it here: https://locate32.cogit.net/
Hey Thanks @Acadia for this topic. Agent Ransack is an old favorite It gave me a chance to revisit some search tools besides the EVERYTHING program. Time to brush up to see if InfoRapid does anything similar as you indicated was necessary for you. https://www.inforapid.de/html/searchreplace.htm Used this way back on old Windows 98.
Surprised to see neither of these mentioned. Both paid unfortunately but very good at what they do: https://www.x1.com/ https://www.copernic.com/
Well scratch InfoRapid. It's rather dated and couldn't even find words in PDF's. Agent Ransack zipped through not only PDF's but XLS's digging out and very neatly Highlighting the Search Field requests.
