Hi, I am looking for a powerful on demand AV scanner to compliment KIS2006. Can you guys give me any ideas and advise please. Free would be a ideal. Light is another plus. But powerful is the clincher.

Try NOD32. Not free but light and the best.

I've started using BitDefender 8 Free for on-demand to shore up NOD32, and I've been very happy with that combo. It's light, fast, and powerful, and was one of only two Advanced+ ranked products this go-around at AV-Comparatives.

I think mwav is pretty darn good for just on demand scanning.

Not sure why you want another on-demand scanner as you already have KAV Personal Pro and apparently soon to have KIS 2006? With hundreds of unpackers, KAV more than satisfies your "powerful" criteria.

However, if you insist on a second, free on-demand scanner I would suggest using one of the on-line AV scanners, such as Trend or Panda. Alernatively, try Dr Web's CureIT which needs no installation.

You can try Clam Anti-virus, it is slow but very effective and it has only an on demand scanner.. its free. I also use BitDefender 8 and it is more faster. ;)

    you right

if you using KAVyou dont want anther scaner :)

if you are using nod32 you need backup scaner , nod32 not very good aginst trojan also it is not good in unpacking , you need to use antitrojan like ediwo also BitDefender 8 Free for unpacking

What do you mean by unpacking. This is a whole new term for me.

Personally to me NOD is one of the top AV scanners out there, infact probably better than KAV, though KAV's trojan detection may be better, NOD will be better at AV detection.

And if I were to get a top notch Anti Trojan detector is would prob be Ewido or Spyware Doctor.

What good would a theoretical better detection of virusses be, when there is almost no new viruses made compared to trojans/worms. ;)

I would do what Blackcat suggested and use the free online scanners and/or DrWeb's CureIt, which you don't have to install. Alternative add a AT like Ewido.:)

Are these both compatible with KAV even as on demand?

I suggest bitdefender free and clamwin. both has just on-demand scanner. also you might add ewido to this combination.

I tried BD, but was unhappy that in runs bdss.exe in the background using 17MB. So thats a no go for me.

:) I am looking at the bottom of your post and see what is listed. Mind you this is just my suggestion. I would install either AVAST or AVG and use only the on demand function, also add EWIDO to your security programs.

    Thanks
