As far as I'm concerned, VIPRE hasn't been tested (av-comparatives), and for that reason I wouldn't use it.

I use the Avira security suite (which has a firewall), and it's light on my computer. Of course, I'm still on Windows XP, not Windows 7.
I use the webguard only when visiting new and untrusted sites, and that way it works fine.

I'm now using NIS 2010. All this talk about good security suites convinced me to change my config.

Agreed but if your testing out software especially AV software you should be technical enough to know about imaging software and the benefits. But Yes I guess I should of included that tidbit in what I said.

The beta does use the latest definitions but the official release is actually newer than the last beta. We do plan to release a beta of VIPRE 4.0 near the end of this month.

The only update issues are usually caused by conflicts with other security software or corrupt downloads. Our support team is always happy to assist with any problems you may run into.

The rootkit false positive I believe was resolved a long time ago and I believe it was related to Norton Ghost.

If you'd like me to look up your activation key for you please feel free to send me a private message with the name and email you would have used or you can always send an email to support@sunbeltsoftware.com to have someone from support look this up for you. If your key has expired I'd be happy to create a 30 day trial key for you.

I don't know why I always thought Norton is just about image&advertising-tested it once and my Dell laptop wasn't responding anymore; it worked on the computer but I still prefer BitDefender.

Alot of things have changed in recent years, Including Norton. I have not tested a Norton product sense 2005 because of how bad they were on resources. That has changed now to the point I bought a 3 PC license for a few of my computers, It runs good and light on them and works for what they are used for.

Yeah same here. I was kind of weirded out about putting it on my own laptop. It worked well for the wife and seemed to run well. After looking at alot of the tests for firewall, av-comp and vb100, I realized that it wasn't that bad anymore. It was actually *gasp* good.

Here comes something really off topic. Has anyone used A2 and NIS running at the same time. I used to do this with KIS and didn't have much of a problem. I'm trying to find something to compliment NIS. Not that it needs it but its the paranoid security geek in me. Its crying out for more SECURITY!!

I did the tech chat online and they couldnt find it. Id like VIPRE, but at the moment I cant justify paying for it since it hasnt even had a proper testing yet.

GDATA AV has very good detection.Only trade off is it slows the net and poor malware removal(However others AVs out there wont even detect
most malware so removal wont even be an issue for them )

Online Armor Firewall works well with it.
