Thanks - I appreciate that. But understand I don't know every UPS ever made, especially those intended for outside the United States. I am a certified electronics technician and I have the necessary tools to remove almost every type of screw. I have the necessary training to ensure I don't zap myself or anything else. But I would never suggest every one knows what I know - just as I don't know how to fix a car transmission or heal a sick person.

But I am saying I have seen and replaced the batteries in dozens of UPS over the years. I have found if you are technically able and have the correct tool to open the case, pay attention to the order in which you remove the old batteries, installing new batteries correctly and safely is a pretty straight-forward task.

BUT-there is NO shame in letting someone with more experience do it.
As I noted above, "I've used CyberPower and Tripp Lite and like them too". I have no doubts there are other brands, especially in other countries, that provide excellent service too.

Ever connected a battery cable to the battery in a car? You often get a spark there too. It is normal.

What really happened is you were too slow. Voltage always wants to find its way to ground and it will attempt to find the path of least resistance to get there. Voltage will even jump across (arc) a gap if (1) the gap is small enough and (2) the potential of the voltage is big enough. When you moved the connector in close that voltage saw the other side of the gap and jumped across before you could actually make contact. Perfectly normal - though you should try to be quicker. This is because where the arc hit the other side, it likely left a tiny carbon deposit. Not enough to worry about in this case, but over time and many arcs, that carbon can interfere (add resistance) with the connection.

So next time, carefully align the connector, then jam it up there. And same with remove it - steady, sure but quick.

Well, you must have been quick. You may also hear a little sizzle. This is still arcing going on - perhaps where you cannot see it.
But you connected the battery to the UPS. That complete the circuit.
