What just happened? Logitech has agreed to purchase live streaming software specialist Streamlabs, best known for its livestreaming app Streamlabs OBS. The peripheral maker is shelling out $89 million in cash for the asset with another $29 million in Logitech stock up for grabs should Streamlabs hit certain revenue targets.

Streamlabs’ industry-leading software will complement Logitech’s existing gaming portfolio, Desai noted, adding that he believes the two can do even greater things together.
Streamlabs was founded in 2014 and helps gamers engage with their audience, grow their channels and brands and monetize their broadcasts across multiple platforms including Twitch, Mixer, YouTube and Facebook.

Streamlabs CEO Ali Moiz said nothing will change as a result of the acquisition from a user standpoint. The service will continue to remain free and open and support multiple platforms, hardware and software services.
Logitech has been focusing on building its streaming and gaming portfolio in recent memory.

If you’re a Mac user and you happen to be interested in livestreaming, I have some good news for you: Streamlabs OBS is launching today (in beta) on macOS.

Streamlabs OBS is the beautifully-designed brother of OBS — which stands for Open Broadcaster Software — that was acquired by Logitech for a cool $89 million last September. The free-to-use software is basically a portal to streaming on any service that allows it; it has beautiful overlays and themes that you can use to beautify and customize your online space; and it is slightly easier to use than regular OBS.

The fact that Streamlabs OBS now has a Mac version is important, if only because it’s a tacit acknowledgement that a ton of people who make things online just aren’t on Windows.

Following accusations of plagiarism and copycat naming schemes, Streamlabs has announced that it's removing "OBS" from the name of its popular livestreaming app.

At first glance, the move is a direct response to the developers behind Open Broadcasting Software (OBS), who claimed that Streamlabs used their naming scheme against their wishes. The fast response, though, is more directly tied to criticism from top streamers like Pokimane and Hasanabi, who threatened to stop using Streamlabs's software if it didn't address the copycat concerns.
