I'm not having any major problems, but the follwing quirks have started recently. I've been running SWBlaster for awhile. Just loaded SWGuard today.

I get pop-up hell when trying to use excite email. I'm running Norton IS Pro along with the ad blocker included. I've added all the pop-ups I get, but they still pop.

I can't access excite email with spywareblaster running. Must disable it to log-in then reactivate it.

MS Messenger started popping when I log-on to windows. Gives me an error on my tool bar that I need to "sign-in" to MS Messenger which I've never used nor want to. MS Messenger never loaded in the tool bar in the past.

I ran Spybot SD prior to Hijackthis. Thanks for any help!

    Hi Moobie,

Something didn't quite work the way it should have.

Disable the Browser Hijack Protection of SpywareGuard.

Then check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.searchonfly.com/tool.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.searchonfly.com/tool.html

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.searchv.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.searchv.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.searchv.com/search.html

Then reboot and don't forget to put the protection back on.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Did as requested. searchonfly was gone, however as soon as I reactivated SG browser hj protection I got the notices that seachonfly was trying to change my homepage. It's saying it's trying to change it from seachonfly, searchv, etc. to about:blank (get six seperate notices). If I "keep old setting" nothing changes in my browser but those searchonfly's show right back up in hijackthis.

    Hi Moobie,

You should allow the changes to about:blank
SpywareGuard is telling you that the settings where changed. It dowes not pass judgement on good or evil.

about:blank is the ones you want rather then the hijackers pages.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Duh :D

Is my "keep old settings" selection allowing the search to reload though? It seems like once it's fixed with hijackthis it shouldn't just reappear by keeping the old setting. I'll try it again when I can reboot. Thanks!

Also, can I stop MSMessenger from loading on my toolbar using hijackthis "fix" or should I do that in the startup registry? Thanks!

    Hi Moobie,

The old settings are the hijack in this case. So you were putting back the ones we tried to remove. :)

The easiest way to stop MSNMessenger from starting up is http://www.xp-antispy.org/

    Regards,

    Pieter
