    Linux Mint 18.1 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2021. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use.

    I've never tried any distro, is this noob friendly..I'm feeling I should try linux out.

    Yes, Linux Mint is my favorite distro, and easy to use.
    Trying a beta release may not be advisable for a newbie though.

    Thanks, I've tried it and I am very impressed, seems a strong learning curve is not needed.

    Great!
    If you want to stick with the XFCE desktop environment, you can get the 18.0 release, and get the update later, when it's available.
    The MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments are already available with version 18.1.
