Just as long as the mars rover watches out where it is going.

In regard to the Bussard Ramjet, Nasa played around with the idea of a bussard type engine but instead of a magnetic scoop they were thinking about a really huge sail like a reverse parachute to scoop up hydrogen. Unfortunatlly the downside to the bussard engine is that the exaust would be highly radioactive. A little detrimental to any life forms that might be found :(

If memory serves me right I believe it was 3000 feet across. The thing about that kind of engine is that the faster you go, the faster you go. And spewing radioactive waste for millions of miles isn't very cool either

    Hey Beetlejuice!

Right! That's where they all originated!
And now that the internet users are in short supply of smilies NASA is in charge of harvesting new ones from Mars....

...and all for the very good price of just a few billion $$$ :p

    To bigc,

    Also...

Jules Verne, a French author in the 1860s, wrote a fictional account of travelling to the moon.
"De la Terre à la Lune" 1865.

That link has texts in the original French as well as in English translation.

Is that the one where they shot a giant cannon shell with people in it to the moon and hit it in the eye.

So don't tell me that Mars is inhospitable -- it's just a walk in the desert compared to a hydrothermal vent ;)

I have watched a few shows that featured exploration of under water thermal vents. There are some really tough creatures that live in that heat and poison gases.

    Hey Wayne,

This is the first time I've heard about these hardy creatures ....
Its amazing how they can survive so deep in the ocean, away from the light and under extreme conditions.

    Cochise,

Sorry I'm late, I was attacked by hordes of viruses (of the biological variety) :(

There's no reason to make your tribe pals embarassed anymore....

There's a nice place I know up there where you can lose as many
pounds as you want... Put a tracksuit on and start jogging on the Milky
Way, once you complete the full 360-degree circuit I can guarantee that you will never hear about the training-bra any more.
Not sure if we would be able to see you again but all the "extra-pounds" will be gone for sure.

    Take my word.

Yes Cochise. Start jogging to Canada so you can shovel Uguels driveway. You're guarenteed to lose as many pounds as you want. Dress warm though. I've heard the temp's about -45F. No, and don't wimp out and go hiding in Detox's nice warm bunker either.
Oh Uguel. Please take care of yourself. Don't freeze on us. We'd miss you terribly. :'(

    Hello BJ,
Always nice to talk to you! ;)

We have many many driveways around here that need to be cleared... ;)
It is cold. And now we have very stong winds...so he'd better hold tight to his raven feather if he doesn't want it to fly to Newfoundland.....

I bet you do have driveways to clear! :D

I know Toronto a bit, I lived there (long ago) for 6 months... ;)
In Willowdale to be precise...I noticed that the winters overthere are milder!

    La Belle province?
They should say "La Froide Province"
    (froide=cold) ;)
