LG hasn’t ventured into the foldable phone category yet but it may introduce a rollable smartphone in the near future.

An early 2021 launch of the said phone can be expected as the other South Korean tech giant has started working on a project. The B Project, as it is called, will feature a device that comes with extendable displays on the side. It will roll and unroll depending on one’s use. The idea reminds us a bit of the early days of Samsung’s flexible display.
The idea is to use a flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED). It’s already in the prototype stage according to a source.

The B Project is said to be named after Kwon Bong-seok, CEO of LG. The display panel needed by LG is said to be being co-developed with BOE. The latter is a Chinese display manufacturer.
The rollable display may be easier to produce, use, and maintain since there isn’t much pressure on one area. Instead, it can dissipate to a wider area as described.

Well, if the latest report by The Elec is to be believed, LG will launch its first rollable phone in March 2021. This is the same phone that was teased during the LG Wing launch event last month.

The LG rollable phone is apparently codenamed "Project B." And unlike the LG Wing, LG will bring a foldable display that can be rolled over around the side and back of the phone.
The idea is the same just like the foldable phones and i.e. to have a large screen whenever you want. But there is something more than LG is planning.

Earlier today we had some of the first videos of LG’s upcoming Rollable expanding smartphone, and now, from the same source, we may have some of the specs.

Reliable tipster @cozyplanes has given us some idea about what LG’s upcoming rollable smartphone could look like. The tipster posted a few GIF images, showcasing the smartphone from both front and back.

The specs note a 7.4-inch expandable screen, 2428 × 1080 (20:9) resolution, with a video mode with 2428 × 1366 (16:9) and Productivity mode of 2428 × 1600 (3:2).

The device will also have a reasonable 4200 mAh battery, Qualcomm’s latest 888 processor and a massive 16 GB of RAM, suggesting we are not looking at a cheap handset. [...]

LG Rollable registered with Korean carriers

We have been following the progress of LG’s own version of an expandable smartphone, the LG Rollable, and now new detail has emerged regarding the device.
Leaker Cozyplanes reports that the device has now been registered with the South Korean carrier’s internal database.

The device will reportedly have model number LM-RN910N and the unlocked model OMD-LM-R910N.
The earlier reported specs of the device note a 7.4-inch expandable screen, 2428 × 1080 (20:9) resolution, with a video mode with 2428 × 1366 (16:9) and Productivity mode of 2428 × 1600 (3:2).

He revealed the device will expand on both sides, increasing the screen size by up to 100%. Either side can be expanded at will. The edge will remain with the device, meaning the user can continue to hold on to the handset.

LG is set to steal Oppo, Xiaomi, and Samsung's thunder next year by becoming the first company to offer a rollable smartphone. We've been hearing about this phone for quite some time, of course, but a new report from Korean outlet ETNews sheds more light on the company's plans at large, with three new smartphones planned for early 2021.

While LG's phone will have to contend with the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip, its rollable screen will present it with some significant advantages over the current slate of foldable phones. For one, because the screen is never folded, it's not going to become wrinkled over time.
In addition to that, the phone is expected to be both thinner and lighter than foldable smartphones.

We have been hearing more and more detail about LG’s upcoming new form factor, the LG Rollable, which features an expanding screen.
Posted on a Korean forum, the detail concerns the screen size and resolution, both in the closed and unfurled state.

According to the information, the device will have a 6.8-inch screen when closed, with a resolution of 1080 x 2428.
When expanded, the device will have a 7.4-inch screen with a resolution of 1600 x 2428 (3:2 aspect ratio)

The handset will also have a slide lock to prevent accidental expansion and to prevent the screen from expanding or rolling up too quickly, which can cause wrinkles.
